hilux transfer case swap
hilux transfer case swap
hey guys, i was just wondering what needs to be done to swap out the suzuki tansfer case to a hilux transfer case? do you need to make new mounts and do you have to get new drive shafts? any help will be appreciated cause i am on my third transfer case and i really want to sort the problem out for good....all three cases became noisy after about three months.
another option is th mq (i think) patrol t/case as i think it is a divorced t/case just like the zook t/case so it might take less work to get it set up under the zook

You're probably just coming to terms with using second hand 20 year old parts of unknown history. Get some aftermarket transfer gears for one of your cases and install them with new bearings and shafts etc and good thick oil and a decent after market mounting system and you will have no further troubles with your current setup.

You do realise a Hilux has a 1:1 High Range. Running around on 31's with a 1:1 high range will suck majorly.
Very few transfer from other models have an underdrive high range like a Sierra.
So you'd have to go to 5.12 diffs just to get close to stock high range gearing, not even factoring in what the 31's are doing to the gearing.
If you've gone through that many transfer cases, i think you get one of your old ones and rebuild it properly. Unless you know the history, there's no reason why your not going to face the same probalem with any other second hand transfer case regardless of what it comes from.

www.locktup4x4.com.au for rebuild parts and gears. They supplied mine and were very cheap and helpful

hey guys...the Transfer case i have in it now just has a whine in it as soon as you change into 3rd gear then it just keeps whining all the way through the top gears. i just want to know if i get new gears will that stop that noise? i will put the gears in myself and i have heard from people that a bush wears out in the transfer case which causes the noise. i will get gears and a seal kit is there anything else i will need to do the job and what kind of dollars am i looking at? cause this noise is driving me crazy!!!!!
I have the same issue with a sierra transfer in my jimny. If you can't hear it in 1st and 2nd does that mean it is in the gearbox not the transfer?skippa83 wrote:hey guys...the Transfer case i have in it now just has a whine in it as soon as you change into 3rd gear then it just keeps whining all the way through the top gears. i just want to know if i get new gears will that stop that noise? i will put the gears in myself and i have heard from people that a bush wears out in the transfer case which causes the noise. i will get gears and a seal kit is there anything else i will need to do the job and what kind of dollars am i looking at? cause this noise is driving me crazy!!!!!

Depends on terrain i've found.mike_nofx wrote:31's and standard t/case gearing would suck big time wouldn't it?
I have 33s (actually measure closer to 32) with 4.2:1 t/case gearing and even that is not low enough in my opinion!
i run 31s with std gears but 1.6mpfi and runs excellent on most to all terrains i run.

i have the identical situation, mine makes a hell of a noise in 3rd and a little bit in 4th then nothing in 5th . 1st and 2nd are a little noisy but hell its a sierra. i assumed as you have that it was the gearbox so i ripped it out and put a toyota one in and now i hear it more because the new engine has more than 5hp
