Hey guys,
i run a 1uzfe in a diesel surf. I have been running an aftermarket tacho but would like to use the standard cluster.
I went out and got a petrol 4runner cluster (off ebay) and plugged it up and all is fine... just the tacho isnt working. I have a direct tacho wire that i was using for the aftermarket gauge... what i was wondering was can i splice this wire into the standard cluster to make the gauge work? or is there something else that i need to do?
This is a pic that i have of the dash... if this helps
thanks
daz

yes splice that wire to a wire going directly to the petrol tacho BUT make sure that there is none of your other wiring conected to the tacho run it as a stand alone if you do not the diesel loom will load up the output from the computer/igniter module and stop it from activating your tacho
dont you love how toyota uses 4cyl tacho for their v8

the safest way is directly to the screw on the back of the cluster to the tacho its selfdar_sbb wrote:where do i splice it in the tacho? as it is part of the cluster... there are only the 4 plugs that plug in...?
there should be 3 screws one for IG one for GND and one for the pulse wire Used to go the the neg of the coil
use a ring terminal and put a piece of tape over the contact on the back of the cluster then insert the screw poking a hole in the tape.
Do this for the pulse wire only that way only the ring terminal and the screw are in contact isolating the rest of your diesel wiring in the car
