We are a metro Melbourne Nissan Dealer. I have been bartering with Nissan Motor Co on a group deal of Nissan Patrol ZD30 engines for the outers forum given there reputation for snapping the tops off pistons. I need x10 sales to make this deal happen. The RRP on these units is $9929.00 the price we can do on these is $6798.00 inc GST. I know this is a high dollar item and a relative small market but if you need one of these engines this is the cheapest you will find for a new unit. These are the long motors that Nissan supply to supersede the old problem units. This price is under what dealers pay for them so please dont go and hassel your local dealer as they will not get close to that price and as I have said I need x10 to make it happen. We can deliver to any Melbourne metro area free as we are in Melbourne, however I can freight across Australia but at this price I would have to charge freight so PM me your post code and I will organize a quote. I think you find that $6500.00 is plus GST $7150.00 (which is a good deal) unless it it for a td42 which we do for $5700.00 inc gst. The price we have quoted i can assure you this is the cheapest you will find. Trev
While you're trying to do a good thing here. Buying an engine to leave in the garage just in case yours blows isn't exactly what most people would do. You're really after 10 people that have a dead engine right now. Which with ZD30's might be the case! but not too likely. Unless there are a few mechanics here who want to keep some cheapies in stock I think you'll have trouble getting 10 willing participants.
I'd probably suggest you mention this on patrol4x4.com, there'll be a lot more ZD30 owners there..

Thanks mikmav, I think you are correct that it is not the sort of thing to put on the self for a rainy day, I had planded to try the other forums but having been a member here for a few years I thought i would see what sort of response I received. If I end up with a few people that do want one not only from outers but from the other forums aswell i might just put them on the self myself and people can but them as they need them. Trev.

Yes the new engines have a different ring and piston design. The date was a running change around the end of 01.

The ring problem was modified back in 01 however bogged is correct they have alot more issues that just the ring design.

Electronics can fail on occasions however this can be mitigated simply by the installation of an Exhaust Temperature gauge and a Boost gauge.
With these on the truck, you will be able to monitor the ECU, the motor can now only fail due to a real mechanical problem (which are not that common) rather than an electronically induced problem such as a faulty Mass Air Flow sensor.

Yes, it was 100.000ks between the blow ups but I would bet that this one was caused by the ECU and that he was not advised to install an EGT gauge after Nissan replaced his first motor under warrantee.bogged wrote:some poor prick on patrol forum his grenade just went off again...

hmmm ZD30s are still throw away items , they changed the oil squirters revised the oil capacity etc , they still blow up , not as frequently mind you, if you can change an engine yourself a service isnt going to cost you anything bar parts , Genuine oils and filters rule over anything else , and dont you think that the 10,000 km service interval for a diesel is a bit far? a few good points reading over what i have read and being a nissan tech?
I stick to the old service routine for all of my vehicles with a bit extra, every 5 thou, oil & filter (used to be just oil & oil & filter every 10 thou) & a major every 20 thou.
The VT at 200,000 & the GQ at 400,000 are still going strong & dont use any oil.
These longer service intervals are only a marketing ploy to make the vehicle look cheaper to service on paper over its life time.
