Grand Vitara lifts and big wheels?
Grand Vitara lifts and big wheels?
How far can you go with lifting a 1998-2001 GV and putting bigger tyres on it?
And aproximatly how much would I be looking at it costing?
I would also be open to getting new rims, to fit wider tyres etc...
Thanks

Calmini 3 inch is as big as you get. Body lifts are a super pain on them because of the steering linkage, Ive done 2 bodl lifts and not something id recomend.
Tyre size is a hassel aswell, you can get hight but the wheel arch dosent allow much bigger for compression and turning without modifing gards.I think 2 profiles bigger is close to the limit.
From my understanding calmini only make a kit for the type 1 98-2000 grandie, the front diff mounts changed after thet though im sure you could remake the brackets required if you want that sort of lift.

93 NJ,5 speed,2" body lift,32" muddies

The Calmini kit is a 2.5" lift not 3" and it fit my 2001 GV well, they make three differnt kits just get the right one.
I have done a 1" body lift and would not go any higher for the same reasons as scooby_74 said.
I ran 255/70 R16 mudders on the stock alloys, had to do some cutting of the plastics and they did scrub a little at full lock but thats the idea if they dont scrub you can fit bigger ones only issue is you can not fit anything bigger on the rear door with the standard bar.
Have a look at by link below and you can see mine there are some pics with the Calmini kit in it

Interesting the supplier here in the west recons that you can only get the kit for a type 1 grandy, I hav a couple of customers with 05 type 3s that he recons he can not supply the kit for. Ill have to re question him.

it would be easier to say what your budget is...you could spend heaps building up your car, or a keep it on a small budget and do it up over time.supersean89

wow zooks look sweet when they have been lifted.
is there a rule about not being allowed to talk prices on the forums?
not even an aprox figure of how much it would cost.. ie 2 grand?
rims are around $70 ea for plain steel with an offset.
tyres (28s-30s) about 190-250, depending on brand/size
do a search on the calmini kit, probably around a grand or so + install unless you fit it yourself
4age zook ute in lots of bits
well my budget is quite flexible.. Porbably to start of with i would spend 2-3 grand.. but i would save up over time and get more stuff done.
I would prefer to get the lift done 1st.
so calmini is the biggest lift? i have seen them online, for a bit over a grand i think. but i have seen Tough Dog lifts for the Vit too. they were way cheaper, but i think i was not looking at the whole package or sumthing. just the shocks.
Who do u recomend to install?
Any websites that u recomend to look at rims?

interesting that calmini is the biggest but not necessarily the best. I'd be interested to know what provides the best compromise between lift and articulation.

thanks everybody for mentioning me
you can do a 3 inch front and 4 inch rear
( rear can go higher but looks funny with the front )
i have been running 225/75/16s with no problem and have been thinking it would be nice to go bigger
Kit legal - $1650 3/4inch
body lifts are for non airbag vehicles
good luck with your GV

I had a 2001-03 Kit on my 01 GV
I am not sure if there is any big differences between the XL7 and GV between the years
I thought the 05 was the one with the full independent suspension. Different kettle of fish

now that we have got a little forum for grand vitaras
i also need to get the front axel seal replaced and the diff carrier is worn so i was thinking when that is all out is it just worth putting in airlockers for the front or just stick to manual hubs? if any??
if i was to put airlockers in i would get the rear done as well
has anyone done this to a GV yet ?
how dose it go ?
i know i will cost a little bit but kevins money will help out a little bit

Be careful and choose wisely!!! Look around at everything and then make your conclusions.
I got told that this could not be done,

Obviously it can. It all depends on how far you want to go.

99 LWB V6 GV, 2"BL, 2" Suspension Lift, Coil Spacers,
not to mine but seen it on a gv... and wanted to know cause looking at updating from the 94 vit..
brake lines f/r also extended, tansfer was dropped 1 inch, custom tailshafts with slip yolk f/r, front diff drop 3 inch he got the brackets custom made, and for some reason he dropped the front calmin lower control arms an extra 1 inch with custom brackets to level out his cv angle...

wouldn't dropping the control arms would make the cv's on more of an angle??danssurf82 wrote:not to mine but seen it on a gv... and wanted to know cause looking at updating from the 94 vit..

dropping the control arms would only help with camber angles and bring the track out to stock, will not help cv angles.danssurf82 wrote:not to mine but seen it on a gv... and wanted to know cause looking at updating from the 94 vit..

You do if you want to have problems thoughfordy1 wrote:so you dont just whack in some 50mm coil spacers and some strut/shock spacers on top of a 3inch lift and be done
I love it when you get told half a story as though that is it and then you find out that there is a lot more to it later

Just to add my 2 cents worth.
When I had my 1999 V6 GV. It had the OME 40 - 50mm suspension lift with 225/75 R16 MTR's (29").
I also changed the Diff's centre ratio's to correct the speedo reading. I supposed it was raised 2" taller than stock.
The 3" lift from calmini is for the Vitara Estate the 98-2005 Grand Vitara is 2.5". From 2006, Suzuki went independent all round.
