I have installed power steering on my fj40 and I need to fit a damper. Do I buy a damper for a 40 , 60 series or custom?
Do I need a RTC damper?
Do I need to buy brackets that clamp around tie bar to give me somewhere to connect damper.
Any info would be appreciated.
I have read the 40 series conversions in the bible and most say to use a MK/MQ damper. But not much info on brackets to use etc

40 series will be far too short. I used a 60 or 75 series dampener (same length) and a 60 series chassis bracket for the fixed end. You need to remove/chop the standard 40 bracket and drill a couple of holes to fit the 60 bracket. Make sure you get fix the bracket in the right spot to make sure its not fully compressed or extended on left of right full lock.

Yeah I bought a new one, only because the old 60 one I got off the 60 I wrecked was stuffed. Just a standard one, I don't like RTC dampeners but thats just me. Pretty sure the standard 60 fixed bracket was just bolted onto a plate on the chassis on the 60 so it shouldnt be hard finding/getting one off.
If you have used the 75 series steering rods and tie rod ends then you should have a tie rod end with a hole in it for the dampener. Its the one that goes onto the pitman arm. Should ba able to make it out in this pic.
