4x4 MECHANIC IN BRISBANE NEEDED-TWO PROBLEMS

Post by SCANAS »

I have got two issues with my HJ60

1. Once the hubs engaged - I have a rattle / bearing noise in front end. Doesn't matter what gear t/case in. It's always there. Gets worse when loaded up.

2. Once I select 4L I can feel and hear the Transfer case or something else 'slipping' I can feel it through the transfer case lever, but it might be coming from elsewhere. It feels like I am loosing drive somewhere. I ave a bodylift but lever not fouling on body - been chopped away. Won't stay in 4H at all as soon as lift accelerator it pops out. 4L all good but 4h comes straight out

My mechanic suggested overhaul the t/case but can't find the noise in front end. He suggested a 4x4 mechanic with knowledge or drive train angles etc would be the way to go.

Want to get both sorted, who can I take it to in Brisbane? If case needs an overhaul i'd go reduction gears. Thanks in advance. Dan
I'm not quitting drinking, I'm retiring at the top of my game - sporting comeback likely.

1: Definately get the front end checked out. Likely to be a broken free wheeling hub or possibly CV. It would need to be dismantled to diagnose.

2: If you are lucky it could just require adjustment of the high/low lever on the transfer. If this is not spot on it will jump out of 4H. I would definately try that first before looking to overhaul the transfer.

For this sort of stuff I can recommend Redlands 4WD Centre, 30 Steel Street Capalaba 4157 3823 3990 http://www.redlands4wd.com.au/.

Talk to Peter Kitchin, if there is a problem he can find it. Peter looks after touring 4WDs as well as Competition Rigs. He himself competes in off road events.
