Post by Not-e-Nuf »

Has anyone ever put a GU dash into a GQ?? Will it fit?
Also will it be legal?
Am thinking of doing it and just thought i'd ask if anyone has done it.
Also am looking for fuel pump for carby 4.2 patrol. Anyone??

dont listen to the neigh sayers... get to your wrecker and run the tape measure around a GUs dash and then compare it to the size of the gq...

dont expect it to be a straight fit and to just BOLT up, but mounting points can always be acheived if you have a welder...

and then there are the bits that align to the door trim, you would have to think about how to finish them.

good to see someone thinking differently

Question to be asked in all seriousness...

..what are you hoping to achieve? I believe that the GU dash maybe wider, are the instruments capable of being hooked up to the GQ wiring..voltage..amps...connectors, speedo drive cable sender.

I think it will be quite complex and in the not worth it. Maybe wrong but perhaps think about improving the guages or look of the GQ dash. Dash board pod to house instruments or other functions.

Mulisha designed some white instrument faces that looked cool. HE hasn't been around for a while though and maybe not a current member.

I'm pretty sure that the gu interior is a good 2 - 3 inches wider meaning the dashes would be different widths ..
also think this has been discussed in here before ..

as has been said before just buy a GU .

Yeah mate just be a sheep and follow every other boring person and dont try anything different cause it may be a bit hard.

I think there all missing the point. Its no different to replacing the motor with something different. but no-one poo poos that idea. If its something you feel like doing then just make it work.

I think it would be cool not having what everyone else has, will probably be difficult with the wiring side of it but if you can do it, it will be unique.

If no-one did anything different we would all be driving the same boring something.

im guessing if its the same engine like td42 it should be ok but i think that all the nissan senders are the same.. water temp oil pressure wise so it should be able to be wired up but other wise buy a few senders.. i got oil press water temp ones for my rx7 for like 15bux..

i have thought about remoulding my gq dash and changing to speco guages or something just to be different and give it a go.. if i fail i buy another dash..

i rekon give it a shot.. cut it down you will have to move the air vents maybe.. buy you could get it plastic welded in place the re wrap the dash in vynil so you cant see any cuts..and make some mounts..

if its what you want to do go for it you may find its easier then you think.. i find i can do most things if i give it a go..

Go with the naysayers. It's deeply pointless.

Well you type that with rolly eyes. But really I dont think the GU is much wider if any on the inside. Its just fat in the panels. I do know the rear wheel arches are the same as a GU/GQ which are also pretty much the same as 80/100series.

I say give it a go if it f#@#ks up
Just fill the holes in with expander foam
Then use a belt sander to smooth it off and some two pack paint
To seal it think of the look you could have.

lol :D :D

Whats the reason for wanting to change it? I personally think the GQ is more suited to the box like dash, suits the body, the curvy GU one would look out of place IMO, and not worth the effort

I got curious one day as to seeing a GQ with a GU interior...I for one wouldn't mind seeing how it was to turn out.

Modifying almost anything on any vehicle is never easy or straightforward, and proving everyone else wrong sure is entertaining. How is it any different to, say, putting a vx commo interior into an old vn. Same shit different smell.

I had 2 mechanics frown on me and whinge bitch and nag about me wanting to put the commo v6 into my triton, how it was stupid, and a pain in the arse to work on, no room, blah blah blah. All because they'd seen a hilux done.....I proved them mofo's wrong :D was heaps of room around the sides to work on it, and definately worth the gains...and fun

If your keen and can stick to the challenge then just f@#$&n do it :D

Go for gold. :D would be interesting to see done but unless you want to go in carshows kinda pointless. I prefer mods that improve the cars power or handling on/off road
GU 42td wagon for touring
GU ute for the fun stuff

I am all for improvements to interior comfort/features as well. It's just that I don't see the dash swap as adding anything of that kind either. It would just be a swap for the sake of a swap.

I for one much prefer the GQ dash - you can stick things on the flat bits - the area behind the grab rail is perfect for map books, telephone directories and so on. Sloping dashes are useless.

I feel better now. Might go out and put Armorall on my dash for a while
