just bought a sierra for something to do thinking of ditching the 1.3ltr for something to make it go fast :lol: but dont want to spend a truck load on it. any ideas what motor would be best???

Mate horsepower always costs money. The best conversions are the Swift GTI motor, and the Vitara/Baleno 1.6 motor. Do a search about either of these, theres plenty of information about both.

You don't want a sierra to go fast. Really, you don't. They're pretty average in the handling department with 47Kw. More torque is very useful though, as is EFI.

1.6 Baleno/vitara offers the best possible combination of ease of fitment, power, and reliability.

A carby 1.6 swap will cost maybe $2-3K complete. It's probably able to be done cheaper, but that's a guide for a good motor and a nicely finished job - exhaust and cooling sorted etc.

an efi 1.6 conversion will probably cost $3-5K complete, probably the same for a 1.3 GTi conversion really. Wiring, fuel system etc will have to be dealt with for the EFI swap on top of the physical work of getting the motor in there.

That's for a maximum of about 100hp, and very little major work - small engine mount mods, gearboxes are easy etc.

More than 100HP would be a bit scary in a sierra that's prepared for off road use ( bigger tyres/suspension etc) and is going to cost a lot more $$ and take a lot more time to sort out. 4AGE Corolla, J20 2.0 Vitara, H20 2.0 vitara V6 etc are all possible but there's lots more heartache in the conversion, and that's normally going to mean more money.

I've got a Sonny's 802ci tall deck big block motor sitting in my shed and I'm going to put it in my sierra. I don't want anybody to tell me it's a bad idea because it's definitely going in the car, except I don't want to chop the transmission tunnel. Has anyone done this without cutting the transmission tunnel?

If you get an 802ci into a sierra i would love to shake your hand. mate of mine has a 540ci dragster and it wouldnt even fit between suzuki chassis rails? couldnt imagine the size of an 802 and the weight.

It was a joke SamK. People always assume the motor they want to own, or already own must be a good swap.

Just because it makes power or you own it doesn't mean it's a good swap.

I have no doubt an 802 could be fitted into a sierra, hell some people even put commodore motors in them :roll: but that doesn't make it a good idea.

My sierra doesn't even have 802cc...

i put a jimny G13bb in my 95 zook. it cost me $2000 all up, and thats including $1600 for the motor. you dont need big power, just injection.

yea am prepared to spend some dollars on this car as it cost me pretty much nothing. never had much to do with zooks but am slowly growing to llike it. but im building the zook for some fun and maybe to race it eventually. not interested in serious offroading in it as i have built a patrol for that. so it will be experimental haha will let you all know how it goes.

its more of a engine upgrade than an engine conversion :D
if you get a coily fuel tank you get the bolt in fuel pump too

i got a coily tank it doesnt have a fuel pump just the swirl pot thing

sorry, worded wrong, you have the ability to have a bolt in fuel pump, unlike the older tanks
