transfer case gearing

Post by trev1 »

How many teeth does the standard toyota gear have. The gear I'm talking about is the gearbox shaft gear in the transfer case. The one that sits in front of the PTO drive gear.

I had been told this transfer had Marks overdrive gears in it so I thought if I knew the standard number of teeth, I could count mine and see.

Marks gears need to have relieving on the bottom of the t/case for the idler gear, as they are larger than the standard diameter idler. Marks gears are quite coarse compared to the standard, that is they have less teeth.

there is two different gears in a cruiser split t/case, (for the large idler 36mm? and small 32mm? not sure if thats right) cant remember which has how many teeth on the input.....

Just thought of something else, i am pretty sure marks hi and low range gears come with roller bearings rather than bushes.

What ratios are available standard for the 60 split case ive been looking on ih8mud and the yanks rekon theres the 1.996 to 1 low and a 2.2?? to 1 and a 2.4?? to 1..
has anyone come accross these gears in a 60 some say that the lower ratio only come in the bundera and some say that the lower ratio come from the auto 60 ..
theres no real fact to this or if there is i havent found it yet anyone here know the facts..
the marks adaptors site only specify 2 ratios in the 1.9 area and theres bugger all difference between them
Cheers

I'm looking into this myself actually right now.

My nov 83 build H55F, FJ60 with 4.11 diffs transfer case has 1.9 ratio low range.

Have also checked a HJ61 transfer case, 88 model and it has 2.2956 ratio low range.

I am yet to check my FJ73 85 model transfer case.

I bought a second hand box and transfer with reduction gears. Its supposed to be 55% low range reduction and 8% high range underdrive (Option 4 on marks website).

Here's a pic of my gearset for you to compare with. You should also be able to read some numbers off the marks gears and ring Marks to check what you have.
