85 hilux wiring problem

Post by 19richo90 »

in my lux, the dash doesnt light up and the tail lights dont work, like brakes, reverse and the indicators work. but no lights. now on my old car the same thing happened, but it was just a fuse. so im thinking maybe they are on the same circuit. but i have changed all the fuses and still have the same result, does anyone have any ideas or helpful pieces of info.

thanks very much in advance

Don't forget there's two fuse boxes, one under the dash as well

Most likely a relay, try the ones on the fuse panel under the dash

you can do that to check the windings in the contact switch, but it's usually the silver contacts that wear out

here's a diagram

the numbers on the pins may be different, but you get the idea, you'll have to energise the windings on the switch [ 85 & 86 ] to make sure the relay is switching, and then check the continuity across 30 & 87.
