hey i have a 91 gq patrol diesel 4.2 i sucked in a fair bit of water on the weekend, it never stalled but still runs, it has losted power is there anything i should do before i keep driving it

I'd be taking it to get the motor inspected.
if its had a gut full of water, you could have done all sorts of damage, like bent rods, specially fi you have lost power.

Bent rod/s.... checking the compression MAY give you an idea. If one or more is/are noticibly low, theres your problem.... doubt you've got away with no damage, especially with the loss of power being obvious....adam_coby wrote:its not blowing any blue or white smoke, its has lost heaps of power but not running ruff

I'd second the above post, check the filter, if its got a load of mud in it, it might have blocked it.

You may be very very lucky.. but the rod on my motor was ever so slightly bent the car still drove exactly the same.
u are lucky, my mate drowned his, drove it home on 5 cylinders after the idiots roll started it full, banana rod, smashed liner which then smashed the block up, dodgey fix, new rod and liner, aparently its running now. lets see if hel seal his snorkel up this time

Sounds like a good way to remove carbon from the motor
I have found on some old motors that the compression is higher on no4 pot, I can only assume that this is from oil entering the intake through the PCV and dribbling down no4 intake port as it sits under the manifold air intake point, thus carbonating in the cylinder
