Well its all back together and running well.
Only problem is the alternator is not charging.
All i can think of at the moment is there may be a broken wire somewhere as it was workin fine when i pulled it out.

Any suggestions?

All sorted now.
In short it was a wire not connected to the alt.
Read below for the longer version.

Many moons ago i had a problem with the alt overcharging.
Took it to an auto leccy in Bundy and he cut one of the 3 wires off the back of the plug to the alt.
He then put in another wire from somewhere else and soldered it onto one of the 2 remaining wires in the plug on the back of the alt.
Stuffed if i know the details but it worked once he had finished so i was happy

So while i have been looking at this plug with 3 wires off it i thought that one was supposed to be
disconected from what the auto sparky did years ago.

Turns out when i reconnected that wire he cut all works sweet as.

Did i mention before i hate auto electrics :bad-words:

So all good now project finished, it's running HEAPS better than what it was.

Hopfully all goes ok from here on in.

Ok, here is a quick rundown of what I did.

Cylinders bored 0.5mm oversize and honed
Top of block skimmed
New oversize pistons and rings.
All new bearings in main and big end
Head stripped, cleaned and machined
New valves, valve guides and stem seals.
Rebuild kit included all new gaskets and seals for everything.
New timing belt and tension pulley
New water pump and thermostat.
Injectors cleaned, new seals and o-rings.
New spark plugs. (Coil, dizzy, rotor button, leads all still quite new)
Oil, fuel and air filters.
New idler pulley bearing
New spigot bearing (Clutch & throw-out bearing only about 6 weeks old.)
Starter motor reconditioned (had been playing up for ages so did it while it was apart)

Some rough dollars
About $2000 for rebuild kit, all the machining and valve assembly, timing belt kit, water pump & thermostat.
$30 per injector for clean, o-rings and seals.
Guessing a few hundred for the extra stuff that i did as a piece of mind thing.
Such as water pump, thermostat, fuel filter, air filter etc.
Then the consumables oil, coolant etc.

Overall i think it cost around $2300, But i now have peace of mind that 98% of all the
major components are good as gold and i know the exact condition of all the engine internals.

Congrats Clint on a great job. Nothing like doing it yourself, you know that you get a quality job. My son got a fully reco motor for 3000 and the head gasket went becuase they didnt tighten the head bolts to the right tension.
