im interested as to the comment on doing them cold.the manual does give a cold spec iirc.. everyone in the dealer i am at does them hot , do you do them cold at home because of the time taken to do them if you have not done about 400,000 of them. each 4.2 gets it every 20,000 as part of service.

ifaik is 14 thou for both
prehaps a gq td42 is different, however i doubt it

edit: quick look in the gu genuine manual page em-176 states 0.35mm or 14thou, done hot. as i said i highly doubt thats going to be different for a gq td42

All TD42 engines are 13 thou hot, No nissan engine likes cold tappet settings.

If you run them at 12thou it shuts them up and gives a little performance gain.

You'll find that if you have adjusted the valve lash to 13 thou and they are still noisy your valve stems have worn the rockers and they will need to be built up and machined. 12 thou isn't recommended as factory have set them at 13 thou for a good reason.

Tappered feeler gauge also helps to set them right, especially if you have divits on the rockers.
