G'day guys, Sorry if its not in the correct section, but am hoping someone, or few, can lend some ideas and options for a mate. The family car is a NJ Paj. s/wagon 5spd man. Stock.. anyways.. last week he broke the rear left shock, its snapped at the base of the shock body where it conects to the diff, basically leaving the eyelet intact. Dont know how, Dont know where..

The question I ask is: What ''other'' shocks fit with Stock suspension!? or what is the lenghts? Im not near the car to measure.. and its doubtful He would take the time to remove the 'good one' and extend/compress and measure! :roll:

Being tight on the folded stuff, am hoping to give him some good news and tell him to head to pick a part and get some (EXAMPLE) Stock Patrol fronts. etc.. so whats interchangeable!?

I recall reading for a ''cheap'' lift, GU springs can be used, so I wonder if shocks would be the same!?

Has anyone else had a similar experiance with the OEM shocks breaking the shock body!?

He also has the flashing 4wd lights.. but i did search and found that fix :) Great layout of the mitsu. section to!!! So much more reliable than the suzuki one!!!

I got a paj on saturday .. so I am still all enthusiastic about it all .. will go felx it out tommorow and measure the open and closed lengths and see what I come up with

This isn't a common failure (afaik), although the shocks will bind against the control arms at max articulation - my OMEs have nice dents in them. I believe it's a suspension geometry issue, rather than shock length issue, particularly if you still have your rear sway bar connected.

In the first instance, I'd chalk it up to dodgy welds and buy more "stock" shock absorbers. Worry about mods after the second failure.

Yep as Scott said it's not a common problem per se.
Certainly denting the shocks from the radius arm is especially the passenger side for some reason.
I've only heard of one other and his was after a brand new Bilstein lift kit and it broke the top mount.
Most likely a dodgy shock/welding.
