I admire your work joe, but I can't agree with you here. I agree that increasing tyre size does increase the required wheel torque to produce the same forward force. However the torque on the axle housing is always equal in magnitude to the torque at the wheels, just in the reverse direction.

To put it another way, it does not matter how small you make the pinion, the force it has to apply downwards on the ring gear, hence the reactionary force it applies upward on the carrier is the always the same for a given wheel torque. All that changes is the required input torque at the pinion. (this will change the side to side torque ie the reactionary force that tries to lift the right wheel off the ground and push the left into the ground due to the rotation of the tail shaft, but this force is minimal and is not what bends our springs)

I'm willing to be corrected if I have missed something.
In short, every action has an equal and opposite reaction ...

track bar looks good

for those that think the trackbar with a shackle at the end dont work have no idea

joe blow dosent matter what diff ratio you have if a tire is jammed in a rock it is still goin to wrap up the springs exactly the same amount to get it to start to move

if you can some how prove me i would be intrested to hear it
as that is the way i look at it

imo the lower the diff gears(higher numerically) the less stress it puts infront of it (transfer ,gearbox)

and the more stress it puts on behind it (axles)

Time will tell hey, the only probs Ive had before when running a very similar bar was without the "twist" joint in it it bound up too much.
I really cant follow the gearing thing, do you mean as long as the "standard" tyre diff gear ratio is followed axle wrap will be limited? Does this take into account gearing before the diff?
Its an interesting thought but I cant see how correct diff gears can stop the axle rotating under acceleration?

all this talk of theoretical trac bars and yet anyone with good fab skills could make the style i have on mine (oztraks / caltracs) and be guaranteed zero spring wrap and zero binding...

If im corect your wrap bar goes under the hilux springs on your truck. It looks like a top idea and would work no worries but, what would stop me from doing it is clearence. I think that if your (in theroy building control arms) Why not stick them on the actual diff up a bit higher?

PS alien's truck looks freaken sick with the front diff 6" forward :D

Yeah mines under the leaves... clearance has not been an issue so far - they dont use any more space than a SPUA zuk.. and because theyre right up next to the rim/tyre they dont hit the ruts etc.

ok i am now getting all materials together. found the pipe. ive got a few questions

1.what bushes did you use on the axel. and what size pipe?

2.is it best to keep the bar as long as posible or is shorter better?

3.will the angle/steepness of the bar effect anything?

4. how strong is that crossmember with the 2 body mounts on?

As long as you can possibly fit and as flat as you can get it.

You can get pipe that suits second gen (probably all non ifs) hilux bushes perfectly Brendan. I know as I built new spring hangers for my lux back in the day.

i would like to use some 32NB pipe. the ID of that would be about 35mm for med and 33 for heavy. time to start asking around i think.

just thinking about it i had an old sierra bush i tryed and i couldnt get it to fit on the pipe i had. might have to measure it all properly and get some heavy tube that it will fit into i think.

Just an update on my (dodgy) traction bar.
Use it today and was finally able to bump obstacles that require momentum :D
After a nasty hole that saw full throttle launches my springs are still intact...cant say the same for the hilux drive shaft!!
