Project "NO MONEY"

Post by Wesley »

Well its come time to pull my finger out and get my hardtop going again so i can have some fun in it, This isnt going to be a full on rock crawling machine just something to take out and have fun in that wont cost me bugger all.

OK so plans so far are

Welded front,rear diffs
Spring over with YJ's already got the stuff sitting there
31's for now
stock 1.3 with stock gearing as i dont see the point on spending more than the car cost me for gears though i might make a drop box later.
fix the body up as its been rolled on the bitchumen :D
dont know if i should tube the front or not as the panels are stuffed but they look
will make all my own bar work
Getting painted hammertone gunmetal gray
1/2 doors as my windows have been smashed so theres no point for full ones :D
anyone got any other ideas that wont cost me anything? its not regod so anything goes.

fab a snorkel, strengthen the diff housings, move the perches out to stretch the wheelbase, can you get a 2nd gbox and go twin sticks to correct your gearing instead of buying new gears???

I like the body as intact as possible... dont forget how muddy everything will get if you leave it open!

How are you addressing the steering?

It'd be cool to make it a trayback by taking out the middle section and moving the rear door behind the seats =P then you wont get any scrubbing on the rear wheel arches - cos they wont exist! haha

Cage

Dovetail the rear

dont trayback it. if u need space for uptravel, create some wheel tubs from sheet inside the hardtop.

depending on where your wheeling, lookout for a 1L box and NT 3.9 ratios for the diffs, same as i have

I already have a softtop for the road, this is just a thrasher and i didn't think you were meant to cut hardtops because it weakens them to much?

strengthen wherever you weaken it from cutting, problem solved but in saying that id leave it as is and just go nuts.If you dont care about the body damage leave it as is.Looks like a fun little project,A bit lower gearing and with the welded diffs will be

matt
sierra truggy,37 sticky treps,propane,6.5s and disconnect,lux diffs with spools,16" fox shox,hydro steer.

Do a link setup yourself, move the tank & stretch it right out, weld up a front x-member to take a winch & power steer box.

lose the front clip & cut the rear.
All the gear, No idea...

Would go coils but i already have a set of yjs sitting at home so id prefer to use them, i also have springs to go 3/4elip but the yjs should flex good without it so i dont know if i should use them or not. i do like the bar work on the front of that and my front clip is alot worse than it looks in the pic so i might make up something like that.
