LD28 diesel in pathfinder or pick up?

Post by 83 chif »

Hey all, I'm usually a toyota guy, but I found an LD28 I6 diesel, non turbo, and I know I've heard of these going into pathfinders before. there is one on ebay with one right now. or there was anyway.

questions...

does this motor need a diesel bell housing or will it bolt to a gasser 5 speed from a pathfinder or hardbody pick up?

are the motor mounts the same as the pathfinder motors?

i heard the oil pan doesn't clear the 4x4 front dif. will it clear with an SAS?

is there a way to modify the oil pan??

thanks!!

Never heard of a LD28 being put into a Pathfinder before.

Seen American's put them in 240Z, 260Z, 280Z's.

Australia never really got that motor, europe got plenty of them.

I know in America the Nissan Maxima got em.

Check out some European sites aswell.

Good luck.

well I think the RD28 is the same as an LD28 only with EFI or a turbo, anyone know about the RD28 in pathfinders?

thanks for the reply. Gonna have to check some european sites like you said.

The RB series engine is based off the L series engine.

The RD28 would be built off the LD28 aswell. They are some simularities but they are different. Bolting pattern would be close, the RB and L series bolt pattern are as close.

The KA24 and Z24 are designed off the L series aswell. A KA24 head will bolt on a L20B and Z24, one oil line doesn't line up though.

Why would one want to put the LD28 slug into a D21 ??
It's a heavy boat anchor with no power at all and won't even fit into the D21 engine bay lengthwise. The LD28 is a straight six while the D21 engine bay is designed to house a inline 4 or a V6. The oil pan would the least of your problems. You would need to hack the firewall, hack the radiator support and mount radiator in the rear of vehicle. Than build a transmission adaptor to mate the slug to the D21 tranny etc.
All this to end up with less power & torque than the stock TD27 in the D21 :finger:
There are millions of better engine choices out there to fit into the D21

d21

well the reason for the ld28 is I found one that is very affordable. I want to try and use it as I'm dying to get a diesel.

the ld and the rd are the same length, right? so the ld could fit in a pathfinder though, but it's a dog of a motor, eh?

What other options are there for a D21 though? What would you guys recommend and where to find?

Get either a stock TD27 or even better a ZD30 out of a wrecked Patrol.

Mate I gotta agree, a ZD30 or a YD25 would be a better choice. A TD27T is what the D21 came out with over here.

What torque? Tighten it till it strips and then back it off half a turn.
