indicators not working

Post by oops »

I have an 88 rangie hiline and recently my indicators decided they don't want to work anymore. I have taken the stalk appart and it doesn't appear burnt out or anything. Ive also hooked up the flasher unit to a power supply and it clicks ( it's a 4 pin hella type) Ive also checked the fuses. does anyone have any othe suggestions or does anyone know which pins are meant to do what on the indicator stalks. This is really frustrating me.
cheers adrian

Normally i would suggest the stalk switch is to blame, check the copper contacts are clean and using a bit of emery paper or similar give them a clean up also check the springs/balls still work. Trace the wiring down the column and see if there are any faults along the line, bad earths are the major offenders of landy electrics.

Yeah I have taken the stalk apart and cleaned all the contacts, but still no go. Does anyone know what wires are meant to complete a circuit when the stalk is moved.

In my old rangie, whenever I used the Hazard lights, my indicators would stop working. I can't remember exactly what it was (few years ago) but the hazard switch would get stuck just at the point where the lights wouldn't flash but the electrical system thought they were on and over-rode the indicators. Sorry, does that make sense?

Basically, if you've used your hazards recently, check the switch isn't sticking.

FWIW mine fixed itself after turning the hazards on and off quickly a few times. I also may have whacked it pretty hard with my fist, I don't remember. :turn-l:

I'd be guessing the plastic parts inside the hazard switch have broken and fallen out of place. Happened to mine one day, just worked out where the contacts used to sit for normal operation, and soldered the bugger together. Perfect, just the hazard light switch doesn't actually do anything!

yeah i think it is the hazard switch as this was doing funky things, including getting the indicators to work. now I just have to figure out whats meant to be where, as nothing seems broken or burnt out inside the bloody thing
