e lockers

got a 75 series cruiser ute and thinking about putting e lockers in the front and rear. has anyone used or got any info on how these go and there reliability. any 2 cents worth of info would be great.

they're reliable, just a little slower to engage but the diff housings, long axles are all different to standard non e-locker stuff

thanx for the info guys. im leaning towards these lockers as i think electrics are easier to fix than busted air lines out in the bush.

Also the factory wiring is fairly complex so not sure how much rooting around is required to ge them to work properly if you do not have all the wiring and ecu stuff.

if i get them installed from a 4x4 shop, do they supply all wiring and everything that is needed to have it runnin. i got a price today of around 1650. is this price ok

Are you talking the factory electric lockers or the Eaton e-locker.

Ah Ok different storyu then. Obviously with an aftermarket kit ou will get the whole thing fully set up. Don't know enough about them but the price is right. That probably about half an ARB instal if you need the compressor as well.

Where are you going to get parts for an eaton when it breaks?

They are not manufactured in australia.

Sorry, but that is not correct.

They are manufactured for local models in Australia, by Harrop Engineering in Melbourne, under licence/in conjunction with Eaton in the US.

The kit comes with the wiring loom, relay, switch, etc., everything you need to install it.

Once they have the axles out though, you might want to look at the condition of the axle/swivel-hub/diff bearings and replace any that need it.

Harrop engineering (vic) sell them, I don't know where else you would get them, they will freight anywhere. I got an email quote about 2 months ago and from memory it was about $1600 per locker complete (front or rear for 80s). I will be getting one as soon as funds permit, got to be better than an airleaker.

Believe he is getting it supplied and installed by Opposite Lock at Nerang on the Gold Coast.

What torque? Tighten it till it strips and then back it off half a turn.

I would have said the opposite

i just carry a small length of airline and a quick push in joiner (tony powel hose suplies) can fix any busted line in less than 1 min
airlines are not affected by water , salt and mud

i dont think electrics should be under a truck in the mud and salt water
as any connections will give trouble over time if the truck is used in these conditions pneumatics suffer no such fate

i am an electrican by trade and know the problems of electrics and the environment
the process control industry uses pneumatics for a reason (reliability and simplicity )

i have had 3 trucks all with air lockers never had problems with them engaging
other than once when the fuse holder for the electrics was corroded and it was high and dry not down with the dirty stuff
i have found the pneumatics to be the most reliable part of the set up

That's per locker.. so about the same as an air locker
