Vehicles intended to be registered for use on roads or road related areas in NSW may be raised to a
maximum height of 50 mm above the original trim height as established by the vehicle's manufacturer
(see Figure 1).
Vehicles raised more than 50 mm above the original trim height as established by the vehicle's
manufacturer (see Figure 1) will only be conditionally registered in NSW and will have restricted access
to roads and road related areas.
They define trim height as the top of your wheel arches. How it is going to be enforced, I have no idea. I highly doubt they have the OE trim height of an 83 LWB Sierra.
They are also yet to define this conditional rego AFAIK.
so a possible loophole may be to "lower" the wheel arch?

such as modifying flares to sit very low, on 80 series for example?

or that ugly vitara with major virtual lift?
Great untill you get in a prang and find you did it to try ans sidestep things.. and how will that help a 4wd?

The only answer is to unite and protest (think unions) and fight for our right to modifiy cars with engineering compliance ;)

If you think online signatures, and a bunch of letters (all the same letter, from 4WDA) will work to change a dickhead politicians mind... there may be some bad news ahead.

Only thing i can think that will work is a violent riot.

Probably not by themselves - but surely letters, petions, riots and legal action they might eventually take notice......
A petiton isn't going to hurt - and if it only helps very little - at least it provided SOME help.
So my suggestion would be to stop browsing for information on the effectiveness of them and jump on the bandwagon and spend that effect being constructive ;)

That's not a bad idea .... rock up to his place on a w/end cause his own stupidity in attempting to do this has outraged people and compelled them to act.
But don't go there acting like a 2yo with turrets syndrome or it will just play into the pollies "spin" tactics and make things worse for us all.

You, and anyone who thinks like you is a bloody idiot, and your attitude contributes largely to the public perception that automotive enthusiasts are all hoons.

Normally I wouldn't bother to reply to someone that writes this sort of rubbish, passing it off as an unfortunate consequence of getting involved with any internet discussion, but the fact is that some of us are working really, REALLY hard to get media attention on this matter. They WILL publish things like this forum and comments like yours will be quoted if it's what the public will respond to best.

Politicians are there to represent YOU. To keep YOUR country free, safe and equal. Their job is to represent the best interests of the majority, and if the statistics categorically say that vehicles legally modified under the current regulatory framework increase the likelihood and impact of motor vehicle accidents, we need to listen. MY feeling is that the statistics don't represent this at all, and that Minister Daley is using this issue to isolate a small group of voters in order to secure votes from a larger group of people - like Harold Scruby's supporters.

Well I agree..... and with the risk of being Flamed out, can any mods on here delete any of this sort of stuff....... It just does not help us here, and is not what most of us on here are about.
Outters is widely read, by lots of people we dont need reading this stuff

Keep it constructive guys..... A lot of people here have a lot to loose, and I dont think anyone wants to make this fight anything, but winable, and fueling the other side with ammo is wrong

Too right! we need to change the publics opinion and the only way we can do this is if jerks dont drive modded cars!! they give people who do things right a bad name and then we suffer, the VSI50 is one fine example :bad-words:

I know everyone knows the jerks im talking about.. the ones that use there 4wd to try and scare other road uses? I know personally ive have it happen to me a hand full of times (Ive had most of them arrested as dicks like this dont belong on the road) and the ones who mod their cars illegally without engineering (why not finish the mod?) then theres the worst of all... the ones that mod their car unsafely! eg; a springover with birdshit welds that are sure to brake! or the commy that overtook you with cut springs!...... This is why the VSI50 is here :bad-words:

Im sure so many of you know people like this that have stuffed it for everyone, but how many people dont say a thing? why? cause you will get flamed by a dick that helped Mr Daley introduce VSI50? Cause you will get flamed by dicks that make the general public hate us?

While we fight the vsi50 we also need to educate the jerks and get some respect back ;)

Hmmm, theres one of these on the side of the road on the way out of town with a red canary on the windscreen. To make things even better, its only the rear suspension that has been lowered - probably to the bumpstops.

I don't want to burst your bubble people but maybe you should look what happened with the fuel rebate in Qld. There was a large petition by the RACQ and the pollies still did what they wanted.

By all means persue this change with all means possablebut Australian democracy is a case of choose your dictator.

There was probably a larger agenda behind that from the states treasury or something, something with a need.

I'd bet the only thing behind this is some sort of push.

Has everone stopped emailing the pollies?, if we stop they will think we have gone away, everyone needs to keep emailing them even if your just resending you original email and just add an extra comment each time... and keep sending them untill they get back to you with the answers you need... or an email that tells you mr daley was sacked to save thousands of jobs and the rights of car modifiers...

Dont forget to CC media groups in your email so that they can see whats going on ;)

no no no. any protest should be co ordinated with all the car groups and on one day. as said in another thread "leave the protest rallys to the associations to organise" here are some of my stats that have no bassis at all.
80% of 4wd on outers have illegally modded or unengineered mods.
65% are ugly
35% are driven by idiots
5 1/2 % are legally modified, driven in an orderly fashion and are presentable to the media or general public.
so how about when and if a protest rally is properly organised, we leave our cars at home, catch a bus and let the body numbers do the talking.

When they were going to close 4wd access to Hook Point, 150+ 4wd's & the media turned up and parked there for the day in protest. The government was DEFINATELY going to close Hook Point but after that stunt they back peddled and it never went ahead.

I reckon something as simple as a large, properly organised (by the 4wd association or a club) car rally with 150+ 4wd's crammed into the minister's office carpark or driving to picket (without violence) parliament house would be effective. If the police were informed/requested to escort the large line of 4wd's it'd get way more attention than anything else.

Has any of the clubs contacted these guys yet? http://www.ufwda.org/index.htm They're supposed to represent 4wd'ers worldwide, and i'm sure if the minister was getting international attention he'd sit up and think about it a bit harder!

cheers
