If i read about it a few hours earlier I would have been there!

What actually went down tonight? Correct me if I'm wrong but although they have set the date as August 1st this thing hasn't passed yet?

What will happen if our modified vehicles that are engineered get knocked off?

We will never get back our pride and joys.
We won't be able to get them back to how they are.

We would be forced to go back to a 2" lift because some d head thought it would be cool to knock off some ones pride and joy.

Alright, just heard back from the Shooters Party. We're making a difference!
Hi Simeon

We contacted the Ministers Office last week asking for more details but have not yet had a response. Based on the submissions we've received so far its clear that Daley's new tough "hoon" laws are going to cause big problems for responsible law-abiding people too - a problem sporting shooters have experienced more than once over the years.

I'm pretty sure they didn't realise the depth of the problem they were creating.

We've now asked for a meeting with Daley and will do what we can to achieve a sensible outcome.

As soon as we receive any further information, we will get back to you ASAP.

Best regards

Roy

I called the RTA in regards to the new rules today and advised them that i (like many others) cannot find an engineer that is not booked out. and asked what i could do?
The RTA gave me the name Dan LEAVY,
Dan_LEAVY@rta.nsw.gov.au

Dan is the principle policy manager, light

I told him i had being modifying my 4wd for the last 6 months and only now is it ready for enigineering and what i could do?

here is his response,

As discussed it is appreciated that the relase of VSI 50 may impact on work already in progress and the RTA is prepared to allow you defer registering your modified vehicle after the 1 august deadline. In order to do so, please provide me with the following information:
* your name and address as they appear on your current rego papers
* the make model and rego number of the subject vehicle
* the nature of the work being undertaken
* the reasons why the vehicle is being modified outside the 50mm limits specifeid in VSI 50 and
* the likely completion date of the modifications.

Once i receive this information i will ensure you are granted an extension to the july deadline and to allow the modifed vehicle to be registered without conditions.
best wishes
Dan Leavy
Principle Policy Manager, Light

I URGE ANYONE OUT THERE TO EMAIL / CALL THIS PERSON AND APPLY FOR THE SAME BNEFITS.

When i spoke to him he said that they are in the process of preparing a press relase to extend the deadline to allow vehicles to be engineered as they were un aware how many vehicles would be affected.

It has already been passed. It is coming into effect this week. From what I gather last night was just a gathering of car enthusiasts who signed a big petition.

It is just NSW. This is separate to the NCOP.

Only for NSW at this stage. But if it goes ahead i reckon it will only be a matter of time before we see it in other states

Referring to the 4WD Action email
VSI 50 affects everyone. Not just NSW based 4WDers.

Please don’t think this regulation doesn’t affect you and your lifestyle.

Even if you don’t live in NSW, if this regulation is accepted in NSW, there is a good chance it may be adopted in other states. If this unjust regulation goes unopposed by you and me, it will open the door for many more restrictions to be placed on how we modify our 4WDs. As 4WDers and taxpayers, it is time to show your opposition today! We will not have our rights as 4WDers trodden on anymore by an uninformed minority. We must band together, let your voice be heard now.
I agree. If it happens here, it might happen to other states too.

Also there is a lot of confusion in this thread about how the trim height is measured. In the VSI document it shows it is measured from the centre of the rim to the top of the wheel arch.

Yet it still states that any vehicle presented for a blue slip thats raised more than 50mm should be knocked back......

I've heard a few people say that surely this has got to be passed by parliament first. Apparently not:
Hi Simeon - the RTA have implemented these changes under existing legislation and because Parliament doesn't sit until Sept it won't be fixed overnight. Please be assured we'll keep you postedf on progress.

Hey,

I have sent a very extensive email to Dan Leavy outlining my situation as described above.

I got a response which sounded like i had the approval, but he needed my vin number, not just my rego.

So i will respond tonight (i cant access that email account from work - just saw the response on a mates i phone) and see where i get.

The other thing i thought of though - if they have all the details of your planneds mods, and put it against your rego, and then you dont get a certificate - that may be grounds to cancel your rego, or harass you.

Ie. these laws might get thrown away - and then the RTA says "you said you have this going on - now you need a certificate or we cancel you"

Mind you, if this was the case, you probably need a cert anyway, this would just make you do it.

Cheers

Got this today.

___________________________________________________________
Thank you for your recent email in relation to the NSW Labor Government’s changes to regulations relating to the lowering and raising of motor vehicles.

I have forwarded a copy of your correspondence on to NSW Nationals Leader and Shadow Minister for Roads, Mr Andrew Stoner MP, for his consideration.

The NSW Liberals and Nationals oppose these changes, which have been introduced by the Rees Labor Government without consultation or any debate in the NSW Parliament.

The NSW Liberals and Nationals have called upon the Minister for Roads to withdraw the policy and will continue to pursue this issue on behalf of NSW motorists when Parliament resumes in September.

Yours sincerely
(signed)
Hon. Mike Gallacher MLC
Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council
Shadow Minister for Police
Shadow Minister for the Hunter

So this is one of those policies that Rees steamrolled through at the last moment without debate or anything.

Thats the problem when the NSW Government only sits for 57 days a year.

I cant see that this news article has already being posted so here it is.

http://www.theherald.com.au/news/local/ ... spx?page=3

Its good to get coverage, But like one of the comments, I dont think the article & picture truely represent the people that will be effected. Its not just flat cap wearing teens that drive airbagged mini trucks. (which I think are alot more dangerous with those notched chassis.)

No pics or reciepts, just a detailed description of the reasons for modifying my truck outside of the new requirements.
this was the response i recieved -

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your message about VSI 50. The RTA appreciates that the release of VSI 50 may impact on work already in progress and is prepared to allow you defer registering your modified vehicle after the 1 August deadline. To progress your application I require the vehicle's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) rather than the registration number. This should be available on the registration details or the owner's papers.

Please send this information to Engineer_Certificates@rta.nsw.gov.au.

Best wishes,

Dan Leavy.

Principal Policy Manager, Light Vehicles

Centre for Road Safety

I have now forwarded this information, so hopefully will have some conformation soon.

Cheers

WE WON JUST FOUND IT ON 4WD ACTION

We've won!!!!!

Hi Everyopne,

Michael Daley has just released a press release ataing that following this morning's meeting he has agreed to put the proposed VSI50 rule changes on hold.

Michael Daley was present at a meeting this morning because he has been bombarded with so many letters and emails from all of you at 4WD Action via the website and forumand other upset 4WDers he felt the need to sort this out. Your efforts in writing and emailing in are directly responsible for this outcome. We have spoken and we have been heard!

Because Minister Daley was at the meeting he was able to be convinced that the VSI50 rules needed more thought and a working group including reps from the RTA, 4WD user groups and the AAAA, aftermarket industry will be set up to discuss any further changes aimed at increasing road safety.

This is fantastic news for 4Wders and it has happened because of the combined fight that we all put in to prevent this.

Great work everyone, this is a hugely successful outcome and while nothing has been decided re new regulations this is a massive step forward for us.

Congratulations everyone and this has proven the collective power we have when we all stand up together for what is right.

Thanks again,

We have won the battle but noit teh war. We must keep[ pressure on to prevent future reg changes but you've all done a massive job here and should be very proud.

Glenn
