bracing GU rear spring towers

Post by chunks »

Hey fellas, I did a search but couldn't find what I'm after. Just wondering if anyone has any pics of how they have braced the rear spring towers on their GU coil cabs. I'm going to take the tray off mine to do it but I wouldn't mind seeing how others went about it, designed their braces etc.

Cheers.

brace

atoc only do them for wagons because they fit inside the spring tower, they dont do them for coil cabs because the chassis are all diferent widths to each other.

thats the first time 've ever heard someone say that.

anyone want to confirm?

i thought the coil cab was the same chassis as the lwb just with less bodymounts.

Coil ute is totally different chassis to station wagon, you can visually see it also.

Are you talking GU only or both ?

GQ ute and wagon chassis are the same width etc, wagon has body mounts and ute tray mounts and to extra tabs for the fuel tank.

The braces I have made fit all coil patrols. I have fitted them to patrols from 1988-2007 models swb, lwb and coilcab. There are slight differences between the rear swaybar mounts from gq-gu.

I ran two braces, welded one round tube for each side running from shockie mount cross bar across the side of the coil hat to upper trailing arm cross bar mount. Hope this makes sence.

atoc

ring atoc and they will tell you why utes are different....there might be only a couple of mm difference between spring towers on each ute.

The winch is in the way, but you can probably tell it's just a member across the spring hats and then that member braced back into the crossmembers fore and aft of the spring mounts.
you'd probably do it a bit different to suit but you get the idea.
