TB42e camshaft

Can I replace the camshaft in my TB42 without pulling the engine out? Can I also do it without pulling the head off?

Yes to while engine is in, just remove the aircon evaporator from the mounts to allow enough length, if you can get the lifters up through the head then it can stay on

Are the lifters normally a prick to get up through the head?

What should I use to pick them up with? Do they actually fit through the head?

with the amount of work that is involved any way you should probably just pull of the head. and that way you can inspect the valves to see if there leakin compression and just have a good look over the whole lot. you don't want to put the new cam in and find out when you go to tune it that i needs to come off anyway for work.

Well I stripped mine down and found the lifters wont fit through the pushrod hole so you must remove the head. The sump needs to be unbolted at the front too.
I'm having trouble finding gaskets also. I cant get a water pump gasket or a front engine cover gasket. I can only get a engine overhaul kit for $335.

I think its all too much work and I shouldn't have started the job in the first place!

A speed camera would have prevented that!

I sense that you will be purchasing 8 spark plugs from now on.

High temp Ultra copper gasket goo will solve both those issues.
