Hi, has anyone got a gt2871 in .64 spec on their td42? Just wondering how they go as im looking at upgrading my turbo and i can get one of these pretty right. Im after power down low as i rarely get above 3000rpm.

89 st wagon, 4.2 turbo, top mount intercooler, 3'' zaust, factory locker, 2'' bodylift, 4''lift, superior drop box's, 35'' mtz, custom bullbar, premier winch
I fitted one to my GU and removed it after 2000 k's.
After fitment it was professionally tuned and made good high power but low was worse than the standard turbo. In the end I spoke to Mark at JPC and he supplied a custom unit (at a very good price) and after tuning performs very well down low.
Power is 121 rwkw on 305’s with standard pump and intercooler. At 1800 rpm I have 18 psi, full boost (20 psi) at 2000.
After fitting turbo’s to a couple of vehicles I would recommend getting a custom unit. In the end you get something that suits your needs for a few extra $ but it can save you money.
Nothing worse than spending good dollars and not being happy with the end result.

GT2871 will proberly be ok, I miss read it at gt2876 from the other thread.
The 2871 is the same hot side as a 2860 with a 2mm bigger diameter comp wheel, marginally bigger then a 2860.
I have a 2876 and 2871 here, just deciding what to use. I have changed my 2871 from .64 to .86 turb but will be looking at running a bigger cam.

Ok cool, it sounds pretty good, JPC certaintly know their stuff when it comes to turbos and performance. It must be making around 130rwkw with smaller tyres on it? This is the sort of power I'm chasing, 150 + rwkw would be awesome but I can't justify the extra expense. At the end of the day I just want enough power for hills and overtaking.
I may be selling the vehicle and will strip the garret and refit the standard unit. I was about to say the GT2871 is basically the 'disco potato' with a compressor upgrade.
With the .64 housing it should spool well at lower rpm.
Out of interest, how much did you pay for the .86 housing?
I'm thinking of using the 2871 when my current turbo has had enough.
The current one has a .86 housing on it but thats all i know about it. I don't like it, it's not making any real boost untill 2500rpm.
I really should find out what turbo it is, so i can make the right comparisons.
