troopy

Post by IN24BZ »

im going to look at another troopy soon its a 78 series i am pretty sure but its fitted with a 1hdtfte (not intercooled one from the 100) i am pretty sure its from a table top. i know the conversion has been done by the owner but before i go in looking just wanted to ask is this a pretty well strait forward bolt in affair aside from some wiring. im trade qualified so i should be able to spot whats been changed however its pretty easy to miss small things that have been overlooked when your excited about getting another car. anyhow essay aside some feedback would be great.. also is the 78 a 6 or 5 stud axle i am almost certain there was a change around that vintage or maybe later in the 79s..

What torque? Tighten it till it strips and then back it off half a turn.

The 78 will be a 5 stud.

The 78 (troopy) was available with the factory turbo engine - but i'm not sure when. What makes you think/know this one has had a conversion?

78/79's are 5 stud, they changed from 6 to 5 stud when they went from the 75 to 78/79 series.

Early 78/79's had problems in the R151F gearbox with the splines in a 2 piece output shaft failing, and then the troopy goes nowhere. I think it was up to sometime in 2002 or 2003 when the 2 piece shaft was replaced with a single piece shaft. But having the turbo engine, I assume that the shaft would have already been replaced, or maybe a stronger turbo gearbox that came with the factory turbos (H151F) was put in with the engine.

its a neighbour of someone i know that owns it , the 1hz that was factory fitment threw a leg out of bed upon turbocharging so an engine from a mines tray back that had its ass run over by a mine dumptruck was sourced and put in its place , its at quite a good price for 10 grand and a shitload of accesories on it you cant pass that up.
