Vitara 1.6ltr 8 valve 'v' 16 valve
Vitara 1.6ltr 8 valve 'v' 16 valve
hi all
i'm about to convert my 1.3 sierra to a 1.6 vit carby,
i've found some conflicting info on the net that i need clearing up,
is there any difference between the mounting of a 16 valve compaired to the 8 valve ? ?
some say if you use the 8v you don't need and adapter plate for the gear box and with the 16v you need a adapter kit (eg. BenT kit)
also some say if you use the 1.3ltr head with the 1.6 block you get more compression, any thoughts
any help

ANY 1600 motor > 1300 gear box will require an adaptor plate of some discription.
for ease of install you can unbolt your 1300 head with manifold carby and exhaust (may need modifying as 1600 block is taller) and bolt directly to 1600 bottom end. timing belt and pulleys will need modifying pending block choice.

just buy the EFI setup. while your putting the motor in, send the wiring harness to killalux and he will modify it so all you have to do it supply ign and power and earth, wire up fuel pump and your done, from what i have heard he is pretty good.
plus the efi will be much better than any carb
worth a thought i guess

I know I sound like a stuck record but go 16V injected. Its well worth it and you wont be disapointed.
We move vehicles around all day here and when you get in the carb ones they cough and splutter then you need choke, more choke, less choke, and they stall all the time!
Buy a complete Vitara then sell off the rolling body to pay for it. That way you have everything you need like airflow meter, throttle cable, loom, ecu, radiator pipes, starter, electric fan, coil, etc.
If you had an old 1.3 engine you could change the sump, flywheel, clutch, mounts, etc in the meantime if, you cant afford to have it off the road for too long.

A 1.6 carby Vs a carbed 1.3 is a night and day difference in my opinion.. The 1.6 is the motor the sierra should have always had.mrRocky wrote:1.6 carby has more bottom end pull than 1.3 but doesnt like to rev as easily and personally i prefer the 1.3 for offroad.
The 1.6 with fuel injection however is miles better
The 1.6 16 V is better again
I think you will be dissapointed with a 1.6 carby, i know i was
The efi version is a leap ahead again..
