Front 3/4 elliptical with shackle reversal

Post by mrRocky »

After putting 3/4 elliptical on the rear of my daily zook, ive been considering using part of a calmini shackle reversal along with 3/4 spring on the front of my buggyzuk. The rear has good flex and has a coil sprung surf diff, the front is spoa hilux with zuk leafs.
Just want a bit more flex out of the front without going to coils, with my only other option being ruf i spose

I've always wondered what that would be like. Can't offer you any advice though save to say that I think it may be very tricky, I think steering may be an issue.

I can't see the point. It's a lot of work for a very minimal gain - The shape of the chassis at the front means the buggy leaf can't do much.

I ran SR and 3/4 on the front of my car years ago (like in 1997) and it wasn't worth the effort.

put hilux front leaves under it - they flex wicked with 3 leaves in the pack (load leaf removed). youll need to extend the chassis 120mm or so to do it though, and re-fabricate rear end mounts as well as new perches on the diff (a lot of work) - plus then you need new brake lines and front driveshaft... and shocks... and... (lol)

Go the RUF makes a huge difference and well worth the effort. Other than that I wouldn't bother chasing huge amounts of flex. Gearing and lockers are much better idea than lots of flex

Looks like hilux rears it is then.
Alien i cant beleive your car is 100% legal it looks like absolute copbait every time i see it. Do you get pulled over much, i assume you take great pleasure in waiving permits infront of the cops face when you do ?

mines hilux fronts... hilux rears are too long and completely ruin approach angle =)

You know what? before i did the mods i got pulled over HEAPS! (2" lift and 215/75r15 HTs) - mainly cos i had p plates and nearer to the end a welded rear =) haha but mainly speeding or "looked like i was going too fast around that corner"... since the mods i've actually not been pulled over at all... had plenty of sideways looks from passing cop cars, but i assume they run my plates and it comes up that its been engineered and leave me alone.

So yeah - i've been dying to wave papers in someones face - but not had the opportunity in nearly 2 years now!

yeah I've had cops trail me for a couple of minutes then realise my truck is engineered and wave as they go pass... I don't bother running mud flaps because they just get ripped off, and if they want to pin me over that instead of the extra holes drilled for the ruf and the front extension shackles...
