carby for hillclimbs?
hey guys a i have a landcruiser with a 350 chev, it has a 600 holley on it i have got the car recently and will be using it for offroad use mainly, i have the problem of the car not running when on steep angles and this is because of the carby is this correct? does anyone know a make of carby to suit the motor that will handle steep angles?
Holley make an off road kit that sorts out all the problems that holley's have with angles.....

no floats
you run a stand pipe in the bowl to set the fuel hight that pipe is conected to a fuel that pulls from the bowl and return to the tank.
you fit a jet where the needle and seat used to be that is sized to only let enough fuel in to give the engine enough to run at full power.
here s one i did useing a 32/36 weber on 1.6 zook engine.

A quadrajet will solve your problems.
Stick with the Hollet truck avenger, a quadrajey has small fuel float chambers that have been known to give issues on fast drag cars on the flat, forget about angles.

Who tuned the Gasresearch? Usually the reverse is true, particularly on hills. A single Gasresearch will limit peak power on an engine over 5.0L, twins are required, the Gasresearch carbies are flowed the same as Holley.tuff6ty wrote:go the holley avenger just put one on my bros 75 runs way better than the gas research

Good luck getting a 2nd hand truck avenger, i looked for ages to no avail.
you could get a 2nd hand one from US fleabay, but its pot luck on what turns up in the mail.
They are made in a 470cfm, 670, and 770
Part no's are hly-0-90470, hly-0-90670, and hly-0-90770. Any aussie holley dealer will be able to get them for you.
Your options are:
buy one new in AUs, will prob be a special order though. I got a 470 recently from Extreme motorsports in Qld (Hunter Racing) for about $500 incl freight etc. It took a week to arrive at my door.
buy a new one yourself from US ebay, may get it cheaper, but then if there are warranty or other issues it will cost you more in the long run.
I have seen them running on sbc's etc off road, they work a treat. Yeah the 670 and 770 will suck juice, but if you're running a v8 offroad why go the bigger ones? Unless youre racing/comp and want a screaming top end, what you really want is strong bottom and mid range, so go the 470.

if all you want from the truck avenger is the flood reduction stuff, you can build that stuff into any side hung holley bowl.
simply fit well sealed vent whistles and use some 8mm rubber hose to mimic the 'cross over vent'. then just run a slightly low float level and slightly low fuel pressure.

cheers for all the comments guys, at the moment i have the details for converting my holley into an offroad one as chevlux has explained, but i am going through the process of getting my engine engineered and am unsure if i can run it on fuel as the engine is older than the car and may need to go gas so will see what the authorities say!
