How do I join UHF antenna cable if its been cut in half?

buy a new length of cable and add joiners at each end.

You got to Dick Smith & buy some more........or there are a RCA style plugs at Dick Smith you can use as well.

Join the centre cable then wrap in insulation tape, then join the outer shield cable, wrap in foil and wrap in insulation tape again.

no you dont! you go buy a new length and put new ends on! a bit of water gets in and yah radio is shtuffed! dont take short cuts here or you will loose in the end!

He isnt trying to join two antenna together, he is trying to join a broken antenna cable together.

No. Impedance matching is the key.

This "solution" is likely to reduce signal strength, and give crap reception. Worst case, reflected power could damage your output stage.

go to tandy's or dicksmiths and ask for a joiner for a coaxial cable there about $2.95 ish. I have used one for 3 years along with a couple of mates and have had no loss in reception or quality it is the easiest and cheapest way to join one back together.

I have used SMA connectors for joining UHF coax cable before. They are available from from Jaycar and are small enough that you can fit them through most antenna mounting holes if you need to.

Need a crimp tool to put them on though.

Maybe that explains my crappy radio performance ATM.

Go to the shop and buy a new length of cable :D

There is no difference between uhf(477Mhz) and CB(27Mhz) cable they have an impedence rating of 50 ohms both the same size cable (assuming that it is a five watt unit).

As to joining the co-ax cable you the best way to join them is with the proper male and female ends, both that you can find at any radio stockist ie dicks or jcar, once they are joined best to tape or heat shrink (appoxy type) over the top.

In an ideal world the best way to deal with this situation is to replace the whole cable but this can be expensive. Some antenna couplers (antenna to coax)are very expensive.
