Whats ur price mate? If your budget is low then i would be seriously considering quality.

I got a custom made exhaust with no flanges, ended up rattling to bits...

2.5 or 3.0inch is the way, i would go a 2.5 but others think differently.. much of a muchness

it seems you have a few posts on here seeeking advice on mods.. I would be getting the exhaust 1st then moving on to suspension and lift etc etc.

A really restricted exhaust will, in turn, shorten the life of a turbo charged engine. Turbos have alot higher engine gas temps, so the last thing you want the hot gas to do is bank up around your engine and turbo, you want to be getting it out as fast as possible... a free flowing exhaust will lower your egt's up to 125-150 degreees..

well not really sure what my price is because i am looking at getting a suspension lift (round $1500), and than later down the track some wheels and tyres (least $2000) and other acessories later on aswell (snorkel etc).

But at the end of the day i dont want to get something that i need to relpace or fix only couple of months later, i will pay extra for guality!!

yes not really sure what i will do first, thats my next decision after i choose what i am actually doing....

So saying about the engine degrees temp the exhaust system you mentioned before would be the way to go?

yes having no muffler will give you better sound, turbo cars always run quiter than non-turbo counterparts, and i think you'd probably be best off with a 2.5" Mandrel bent exhaust with a flex pipe at the front and no mufflers, u'll get better power and sound and should only cost around 800-900 dollars. and in the end you get wot you pay for so theres really no cheapskate way to have a brand new awesome setup, but for something thats half descent and value for money the system i said should suit you to a tee. i also think that a 3" is probably a bit big for a four banger, i think old mate is just over compinsationg for sumthin and trynna look like he's got a big rig. :P

when you say better power, is that going to be very noticable? or does it only give you a slight power increase....

Dont forget the 1KD runs a Catalytic converter too, and you'll need to factor in a high flow cat into the exhaust costs.

2.5" should be ok for Mandrel bent and 3" for Press bent.
As Feass says, the quicker you can get the exhaust gas moving the better, but if the pipe is too big it cools quicker and because slower to exit the system

Jack S wrote:well i just find it abit slugish, straight off the mark. And was thinking maybe extractors would give me bit more 'get up and go' power, if you understand what i mean?

I dont want to do anything to big or money wise though....

any other ideas to help me out?
None of these mods will cure "slugish off the mark" (turbo lag). but they will help. 2 1/2 exhaust is plenty big enough for a 3litre, however the hilux all ready has a good size exhaust from factory. My advice is lose the stardard muffler and fit a unbaffled resinator. You may gain 5-10% improvment in preformance. But the best gain will be from a chip, up to 20%, not a DP chip. If you want some 1 on 1 advice pm me.

so in other words there isnt really a cheap alternative for a new system.
You got to be ready to pay atleast round $700.....

got a new exhaust installed the other day and extremely happy!

all the did was cut it off before the muffler (so i dont have one) and weld on a stainless steel 2.5" exhuast for ONLY $120....

Straight off i can tell it does give you a slight change in performance due to being less restrictive and letting the turbo work beta. It also gives it a better deeper sound.
