External Wastegate in GQ

Post by wish4wings »

Hey all, tried searching but couldnt find any help.
Im about to turbo my td42 with parts ive slowly collected, i have a turbo from another project that isnt getting used but it doesnt have an internal wastegate. Is anyone running external wastgates, if so could you please tell me how you plumbed it into your manifold??

cut a hole and weld in a pipe or buy and adapter between turbo and manifold.

gudday.

how much boost?

ignore the blue hose from inlet manifold to gate as you'll want to install a 'in cab' boost dial in that circuit.

the 'branch off' must face away from direction of exhaust gas flow as much as poss...my angle was a bit flat but I was restricted by suspension tower....you get the idea though.

good luck

Nice setp up, What kind of HP are you getting Garth??

V8s are nice, but you cant beat the sound of a turbo working the magic on a juiced up diesel.

have never been interested in dynoing the trucks, as i reckon money is better spent else where. but have based this engine on 200RWKW @ 30psi+....and no cash short cuts.

it goes like a cut cat...still got a few tweaks to make to get some more reliable horsies out.

good luck with project

External wastegate is seperate to the turbo and mounted to the manifold before the turbo as shown in the pics. Internal wastegate is incorporated into the exhaust housing on the turbo. Most factory turbos run an internal gate while an external gate is generally used on bigger setups chasing more power.

Yes they just have to be plumbed back into the exhaust system and not venting to atmosphere (screamer pipe).
