whats youre thoughts on this type of trailer for a sierra or would a tandem be better. cheers ron
it would be very sensitive to vehicle position and you may find the tow ball weight too much if the load was too far forward.
too far back and it would sway like a bitch.
Im not a big fan of single axle trailers that are carrying a large load and I think it would be fairly ugly if you had a blowout at speed.

85 high roof 1.3, 6.5 tc, air lockers,ruf and 34 swampers. yep its an ugly pos.
I thought about the same thing but i decided on a tandem axle because they are heaps nicer to tow and when you consider where you will be towing (4wd parks etc. ie dirt roads) you want it to be as safe as possible.
Tow Rig - 4.2 Turbo Deisel GQ. 5in coils, 2in body, f&r tube bars, sliders, 35's.
Comp Truck - Sierra, ute chop, G16B, 6.5 xfer, exo cage, 34 JT II's, 3/4 eliptical rear, SPOA, 2in body.

So yer as said positioning would become important, but after a while I imagine you would find the sweet spot for your car on it so if you can get one cheap enough I would say go for it.

No good, unless you use an exotic axle set up, you are limited to 1000kg per axle, you will be hard pressed to find a sierra under 1200 kgs and you have to include the weight of the trailer in the total, that's why the hire tandem car trailers have a 1200kg to 1500kg limit, 2 axles 2000kg less the weight of the trailer.
If you really want to go single axle (and I think it is a bad idea) consider duel wheels and hubs from a Mazda easy loader or the imported Toyota equivalent (hard to find but much larger bearings and brakes)
the reason I think it is bad is the load spread, on a single axle trailer the entire load is supported at two points (each end of the springs) 6-700mm apart, with a tandem axle this is doubled spreading the support making the trailer much stronger.

I just pump my tyres up to 40 odd psi and try to avoid tight turns and I havent mastered reversing around a corner yet, but mines a lockright rear.

Mine was weighbridged at 1040kg earlier this year with a full tank of petrol. I am sure if i ditched all the bash plates, bar work and all the extra strengthning it would go under 1000kg without to many hassles.

Yer I have got it sussed now and it sits on 100 nicely. It makes life so much easier, no more running around trying to hire a trailer for the weekend and then worrying about getting it back on time, plus it takes up around the same room as a 6x4. Obviously you would need to secure the steering wheel straight!

1200 may have been a bit on the chubby side, but a zook need to be stripped bare to get close to 1000kg.
