Hey Guys,
After CONSTANTLY zapping my battery terminal out i now need to rebuild it back up... Any ideas on how i can melt down sunkers and reform it to the battery terminal?

If anything you have it the wrong way around, if you fill the battery right up there will be no room for residual gas. With a full facemask, long sleeve jacket and pants, i reckon youre pretty safe, especially if you havent used the battery in a while.fester2au wrote:Hey that's pretty scary shit reading that post. I believe the battery can make gas regardless of how full it is and can still vent unless you seal it completely. MOst commonly when chargin I know but what about the application of heat to the fluid through the terminal. Have seen reports in the papers of people blowing up their garages from sparking near a battery that's jsut sitting there. Hopefully having it out in a well vented area with a light breeze to disburse any gas would be sufficient but I hate working on anything with the possibility. Having a mate years ago who almost lost both hands makes me nervous around this stuff.

Use too use oxy torch, a mould and sticks of solder when replacing cells or repairing posts on forklift batteries. Make sure well ventilated and that the battery is has not recently been charged or had high current draw to minimise the creation of hydrogen gas.
Some battery retailers ( proper ones not supermarkets) or forklift places maybe able to direct you to someone who can repair the battery for you.

i cut a post off an old battery and use a special mould to melt the terminal over the damaged one using a gas torch. obviouly in a well ventilated area and usually have a second person with a bucket and a rag dripping water over the plastic to stop it from being damaged. you could probably fab one yourself if you have a welder and some scrap metal, but needs to be accurate in its size and shape. take it to an auto elec they will probably charge you 20 bucks to fix it, its roughly what we charge. much cheaper than a new battery

Mine were large truck batteries so worth the repair as they wernt that old
you can buy the molds for the terminals... i made mine though
