The wear looks even.
I used to get about 20k max to 10-12mm on Muddies.
The tread rubber is a softer compound for GRIP.
If you want life you need a harder compound and an All terrain tyre with sipes.
Its a pity re price but good tyres never last very long (good as in work well NOT wear well)

Where did you buy these tyres? Did you call the place where you bought these tyres from?
Does anybody know if age of the tyre might be the problem? E.g. " I bought new tyres and I left them in the shed for 2years"... Could that be an issue?
I want to know how you drive, I know it's hard to answer "What do you drive like?" but in saying in all this, someone really has to sit with you.

its good to hear the other side of somthin all ive heard are that mtzs an stts are the best out however they nearly seem too good to be true? im glad that someone is sayin what they believe about a product an that is what these forums are about. so where is your written evidence that these tyres are good buttfest?

I am not saying i go easy on them but i certainly dont spin them on the bitumen or thrash them. That said the wear (in my completely uneducated opinion) seems to be crappy rubber. The sidewalls are littered with fine splits, most of the writing has peeled off, tread worn considerably, and seem to have hardened...
i asked the local tyre shop (who i brought them from) but they instantly responded that it would be due to environmental damage. Dont have any pics just at the moment.
If the deterioration is due to driving damage i can accept that and be happy with it but if it is because i happened upon a dud batch i wouldnt be too happy having to replace them in the near future.
all being said I would prob buy them again.

Then:- Micky/T ATZ (road) they were gr8, 110,000klm
Then :- Micky/T MTZ (mud) at 40,000KLM they were 1/2 worn, so I traded them in at FOURBEYS. They were a gr8 tyre but I was wasting them by only using them on the road.
NOW ;- Micky/T ATZ(new allterain) so far Im happy but they are too new to make any coment on klms... & everyone luvs brand new tyres the first month.
ALL MY TYRES(not the spare) GET ROTATED & BALANCED EVERY SERVICE EVERY 10,000klm, so wear is even

i have a friend that runs them (mtz's) on a gu td with front and rear barwork in whatever the metric equiv of 33's is.
he tells me that he has travelled approx 34,000km on them at 35 psi and judgeing by his brand new spare he's down to about a 1/4 tread left.
now this bloke is hardly what I'd call hard on tyres.
so they maybe good fo 50k tops if you run them right down, but who wants to run muddies right down? that seems fairly pointless.
I on the other hand run bighorns in 31's on a v6 courier that I thrash the arse off and it regularly carries 1/2 tonne plus in tray or tows up to 2 ton and at 40,000km im still at half tread.

MTZ's are a soft compound, which wear quite quickly (apparently for some?) and are sold as more of an off-road tyre than on-road.
Yet they have a very 'all terrain' type tread pattern. So you wouldn't bother having a seperate on road set. (any more road oriented and you will have semi-slicks!)
They are average performers in mud and most off-road situations, bar maybe sand.
They cost a fortune to buy, and if they dont last THAT long, they could become a very expensive tyre to continue running.
So where is their place? It seems they have the worst of all-terrains (not that good off road) and of Mud Terrains (wear quickly, cost a fortune)
Please educate me!!

I have a set of 35/12.5/15 on my 75 series which is close to 2900kg loaded weight. I am a hard driver so they get used, they have done 15,000 in a little over 5 months at present and have been used in a bit of every terrain, I even have bad camber on the front AND with no wheel alignment until last week, still had more tread on the inside of my fronts than you have. I find them a fantastic tyre, haven't had one issue with them and for me, are a good all round tyre.
If its not upside down and on fire, I'm not trying hard enough.......

Just talked to the guy i bought mine from, hes contacted the rep here in adelaide to inspect them at a later date, but the word is from the importer that its a combination of "Tread wear and Tread compression" and that the last 6mm will last ages.
But its only affecting 285 sized tyres....
At the current rate, im not going to get 30,000kms out of mine, which is bullshit, i got 40,000kms out of the last set before I sold them at more than 50% remaining!
It will be interesting to see what happens, but my tyre guy is saying that hes supporting me, because you dont buy a mud terrain to wear out 2/3 of it in 17,000kms, and then get 50,000kms out of the last little bit- you might as well have bought an All Terrain....
We will see what happens, but its also been raised with the rep that this kind of wear is well publicized on different forums!

2005 HDJ100 Manual, ARB bar, XD9000 winch, ARB rooftop tent + awning, Drawers, Engel, 2" OME lift, 285/75R16 KM2's, iCom, HID XGT's.
Ive had a set of 6, rotating them around for a couple of cape trips and weekend work on my patrol in the 285/75r16 and the treads really dont look all that worn. The tread blocks have retained the same shape rather then wearing down and getting that sharp angular look, however they have quite noticeably compressed down.
Im quite happy with them, i was expecting some delamination or destruction after overheating a couple, but they still appear to be fine. Still nice and soft too.
