Looking for good Diesel Tuner near Newcastle / Sydney
I'm thinking of building up a turbo kit for my 100 series and was wondering of a good Diesel Tuner in the Newcastle/Sydney area. I want them to run it up on there Dyno and get some readings before and after. I also want some one that knows about a Boost Compensator. So basically, any info will be appreciated.

Hi all...Dont waste your money on a boost compensator unless you are going to squeeze big HP out of your 1HZ.Westend damaged my engine due to to high EGT.The money you spend on a dyno tuner could be better spent on EGT instruments IMHO.bendev wrote:what about West End Diesel Services

I had a Surf fuel pump rebuilt by Westend Diesel many years ago, and by the time they had finished I could have purchased a brand new engine. I was young and naive and they ripped me off big time. However the engine ran very well after they had finished... but $5k for a fuel pump rebuild isn't right, no matter how gullible the customer. Live and learn.
there isn't much to "tune" on a 1HZ unless you install a boost compensator, and a boost compensator is PRIMARILY an emission control device. basically if you don't mind a bit of a puff of smoke on initial acceleration, you can live with <10psi boost (and that's a pretty good boost limit for 1HZs regardless of intercooling) and you are prepared to change your oil every 5000km just like the book says, you don't need a boost compensator.
if you are capable of building/installing your own turbo kit, you can tune your engine to suit - there is only one screw to adjust, clockwise for more fuel, ccw for less. start with about a half turn and use your EGT gauge to determine when is enough. 650C pre turbo is pretty safe even for later 1HZs.
summary: spend the money you would have spent on tuning, on an EGT gauge and road tune it. the only "downside" is that you don't get dyno numbers, but dyno sheets are often misleading anyway. a g-tech or even an ipod/iphone with dyno software coupled with an accurate weighbridge ticket will yield surprisingly accurate results especially for before/after comparison purposes.

I just had my car at westend diesel and i wouldnt yse them again. They charge like wounded bulls and very slow, they too 3 1/2 days to service injectors and adjust timing on fuel pump and put it on a dyno once...
I will not go back to them again, if i need to put it on a dyno im going to go to the local performance shop that has been around for years. I have spoken to them and even though they mainly do petrol engines they also know how to adjust turbo boost and fuel supply on the diesel which is all i want to do after i fit my intercooler.
