That's because he's adjusting the wrong end.
As the wheelbase grows, the front end is getting lighter, and the centre of gravity is going rearward. That's working against the longer wheelbase when climbing.
If the rear axle moved rearward the result would be eleventy times better, and might almost be worth all the work it must have taken to build.

I love this clip as he spends ages stuffing around winding it in and out with no effect at all, then pics a decent line and drives straight up.
It doesnt seem to achieve anything.
