Hilux Tailshaft thickness?
Hey just wondering whats the thickest rear shaft people have had made up that works?
Last few times Ive been out wheeling seen a lot of guys that can drop onto rocks and things and not bend their shaft if mine see's a rock getting too close it tucks up and bends..
So i was thinking around a 5mm wall anyone got any ideas on what they've tried?

im no expert at all but just voicing a few thoughts.
I would assume that just going thicker wall (i.e heavier) will increase the risk of the shaft being out of balance or getting that harmonic shake that destroys them? maybe the effect is not that severe though.
Going to a slightly larger tube diameter would make it much stronger and allow for a thicker wall as the tube would support the weight better.
I would talk to a good driveshaft manufacturer and get their thoughts.

When you say test it do mean drive with it or knock it on something?one_waz wrote:when i made mine, the old one had a wall thickness of about 1-2mm, paper thin basically, the new ones about 4-5mm but am yet to test it
Be curious to know if they balance up alright I'd assume they could but it would be heavy..

So apparently it costs about $420 to just get the tube section replaced with 5mm wall tube but it also doesn't come in the same OD as the tube from standard which is 65mm roughly i have to go up to 75mm does this sound right?
Also there doesn't seem to be many places in Sydney that do this sorta thing anyone know of any?

We do a 70mm x 4mm seamless tube. Don't go to thick as you will more than likely snap a pinion off b4 anything else. Hey, yea that's the size i keep getting told to use but i think 4mm wont take much of a beating before it dents 63x6.5mm sounds like the go, in that size its $850 for a new shaft or $400 to just swap the tube and balance of a local tailshaft guy.Unidriveshafts wrote:We do a 70mm x 4mm seamless tube. CAN YOU GIVE THE NO FOR THE SHAFT BLOKE. JUST PUT 5 LINK IN FRONT AND 4 LINK IN REAR OF 2000 DUEL CAB AND NEED SOMETHING TO HANDLE THE INJECTED 350 AND AUTO.
