Best option for 2f engine

Post by Midnight Middy »

Hey everyone,
I am buying an fj40 and it has a 2f with a 350 holly, it runs ok but wont idle below 1000 when its cold. Think its just a blocked jet. But i cant afford to run it on petrol so my options are:
1: Keep the engine, buy a second hand gas kit for a fj40 for $130 bucks get the tank tested and have my mechanic install it. Get the $1750 rebate and have some extra cash in my pocket to freshen up the engine
or
2: There is a fully rebuilt 2f engine with performance parts like flat top pistons, bored .30, headers, stage 2 cam, rebuilt to run on lpg with only 15000kms since rebuild with all receipts. It comes with gas kit and gas tank but from a 60 series. I know the tank wont fit so il have to buy a new one. The engine is $1750+tank+labor-rebate.

Which is the better option?
Thanks so much for your input.

What is the rebuilt 2f built for? Doing burnouts or low down torque? And then what do you need it for? If it is built suitably for what you want to do, maybe that is a goer.

Sorry can't help too much, I prefer diesels.

Well i dont think that a diesel swap will work out any cheaper with more hp or torque.
The guy had the engine built for his fj60 that had 37" muddies that he used as a weekend basher.

if the 2fs running in your 40 all ready your best off getting it serviced and then getting a gas conversion,eg new system, buying second hand seems enticing, but end of the day u dont know what your getting, also a 60s set up will be different with length of gas lines ect,end of the day is it will still need fitting,if u plan on keeping it for a while, save stuffin round, shop around for decent priced new conversions and u end up with the rebate back and its all new and legit

Sorry mate, wasn't saying you should do a diesel swap, I just know a bit more about them.

The rebuilt motor sounds good, but I also agree with richardsc. More research on gas systems may be the go to see how difficult it would be to swap in the second hand system.

I think a bit more invesitgation into your current engine would be the go. See what it needs to get running good and get a bit more grunt. If it's pretty simple and cheap, keep it and then go for the right gas system, whether its second hand or not.

those cabs are snot for offroad and hills/ sand dunes for flooding
i know you can get kits but there sh1t aswell
i had a race camed 3f with shaved head double valave springs yadya on gas went really well i found the cam made it hold the gears better in sand/off road
2f's have a longer stroke so more torque when worked over than 3f
not sure about 2f's but from mem im thinking the 3fs have flat tops std so head shaving give you more compression
and gas loves compression and dosnt flood offroad
