2.8 litre diesel rough idle

Post by wompy »

Just wondering what could cause a rough idle or common problems with the 3L engine at idle.

Mine has brand new engine mounts and transfer case mount.

I've got my idle set to about 750rpm, because that's where it is the least rough, but it still seems vibrate the car heaps bad. What are these engines meant to idle at?

If anyone could help, or could tell me what fixed there rough idle that would be great

Cheers

Kyle

Ok so last weekend I did a service on the lux, I changed the oil, oil filter, cleaned k&n air filter, changed fuel filter, and then bled the fuel system with the primer and cracking each injector and then straight after that the idle was perfect.

But because the lux isnt my daily driver anymore, I had not driven it in 5 days and now the rough idle is back, by feeling the primer it feels that it has air in the system again, im not sure if im doing it right, do hilux's have like a bled tape or anything you are meant to crack before priming? And how could air get back into the fuel system?

The lift pump/primers get old and start letting in air. My did this and was hard to start without priming. No bleed tap. They self bleed pretty well, usually not much more is needed after pumping up the lift pump.

Try tightening the fuel filter up a bit more, some don't like sealing much. Otherwise you might need a new lift pump.

Thanks guys, it starts with no problems at all but when cold it just rattles the car to bits, when warm its alot better but still shakes the mirrors that much at idle you cant see in them haha, my idle is set to 750.

Ill try tightening it a bit more, if not ill see how much a lift pump is, thanks.

Just fit an electric pump off a VL Commadore etc before your lift pump. Herd it can help with power too.
