Clutch Cable Rubbing

Post by smellypaddler »

Hi Guys,

Has anyone had any problems with the clutch cable rubbing on a Feroza? It was working fine and then one day it started making this god aweful noise everytime the pedal goes in and out. I have had a look and can't figure out how to stop it from rubbing. It sounds like the cable is catching on something between the pedal and the exit to the firewall.

ANy ideas?

on closer inspection with the help of an assistant I have narrowed it down to the cable rubbing in the housing near the battery. Do you think this means the cable is on its way out?

Any ideas on where to source a new cable form and a rough price?

Also any tips on how to get some lube into the cable housing?

%$@%^$@^%$@^%$@^% aaaaarrrrrgghghhh

I lubed the cable and put it back on the pedal and all of a sudden nothing. The padal is now limp and even though the pedal moves the cable it won't go into gear. I can manually move the lever underthe car as well and nothing.

I think the clutch fork has gone which means I'm outta pocket another $6-700 for a POS that I don't want any more. If only I could afford another car I'd burn this one in a heartbeat.

The clutch mechanism is pretty tough, I mean I cant see anything other than a failed clutch or throwout bearing that has come apart (or the springclip that locks it to the arm broke).

When you move the arm underneath the car, is it hard as hell with tons of pressure, or easy?

it's easy. Last night I tried again to put it into gear bbut now I can't get it to go into any gear. Before then it would go into all gears without needing the clutch pedal pressed or manipulated manually.

Sounds like you may have broken a inner spring or 2 on the clutch plate. I broke 2 inners and 1 outer spring was seized a few years ago.

clutch kits arn't that expensive, just make sure you have the flywheel trued again. my 2c

try either of these guys for parts.

Thanks guys. I've never replaced a clutch before so I think I'll work out how to get it towed and have someone else do it for me. More money for the money pit.

Clutch is pretty straightforward. May well be the fork, had that happen once. I had the same symptoms prior to it breaking too.

Had the opposite happen - driven plate springs came loose and jammed the clutch on - most !@#$% inconvienient.

Auto's rule
( usual disclaimers )

It seemed like a much better idea when I started it than it does now.
