ECUTalk

Post by Jimbo »

Cut from my post on patrol4x4

Hey guys i thought i would let everyone know about a gadget i just bought!

Its called ECUTALK and i originally bought it for my R33 skyline but it happens to plug straight into my tb42e gq

http://www.ecutalk.com/consultlcd.aspx

It plugs into the consult port (under dash on drivers side) and reads a lot of the data the ECU is reading.

While i'm driving i can see

speed, rpm, battery voltage, injector duty cycle, ignition timing, AAC, O2 voltage, water temp, AFM voltage, TPS position.

Once i inserted my injector size the unit then becomes a trip computer that shows my instant fuel consumption (l/100km), total fuel used and average used. This even works while i'm on lpg as the ecu still sends the injectors a signal (Not 100% accurate but gives a very good indication).

The unit also lets you play with ignition and fuel but just as a percentage over the whole table. IE i have my timing set pretty high for lpg and it tends to "Ping" on fuel (even premium) so if i ever drive on petrol i can now knock the timing back up to 10 degrees without adjusting the distributer. I also added a little more fuel which helps eliminate pinging.

Anyway i thought i would let ppl know about this product. I bought it of skylines australia forum for $150 delivered. It also comes with a USB cable which lets you plug it into your laptop and run other programs such as Conzult and OBD Scantech.

Cheers

James

PS: I find the digital temp display to be the most helpful. Cruising at 60km/hr my guage sits on 1/3 which is 84 degrees. On the freeway it moved all the way to 1/2 which is actually only 88 degrees!! I have been worrying about my temp for nothing!!

That looks good. My TB45 GU has the 14 pin consult connector, and i was wondering if it would work.

I was only aware of this one which requires a laptop and the DataScan software to display.

Whereabouts in Victoria are you Jimbo.?

did you notice any economy gains or power gain when changing the ignition timing, especially on gas?

I havent played around with the timing on gas much as it doesnt seem to make much difference like on petrol. I'm just happy i have finally got it to run on petrol.

The port looks like this
http://www.ecutalk.com/images/consult_car.jpg

Its just a plug under the drivers side of the dash. If its a fuel injected patrol it will be there.

you can buy the cables direct from ecutalk via ebay for like $70, there are MANY different softwares out there which work with the tb42e.

however according to the websites ive seen they state tb4 isnt supported even tho it has the same 14 pin plug.
