Sierra Diff Centre's

Post by Dominator »

Am going to put a lock rite in the front of the sierra. Just want to know how to tell the difference between the different diffs. I have two here. One i am guessing is a 2 pinion and the other is 4 pinion or a lsd i am not sure. I dont know a whole lot about diffs. I can post pics if you need.
Thanks.

A 2 pin carrier, the centre in being held by 2 arms and you can see the spider gears clearly.

A 4 pin carrier, the spider gears are fully enclosed so you can't see them.

An lsd.. Very rare from vitara's.. Not in aus sierra models.

1st one is 2 pin

2nd is 4 pin

Not lsd

Its not explained as 2 or 4 pinion either. The pinion is the small diff gear/shaft in the diff centre.

The '2 or 4 pins' are holding the spider gears.

that is exactly how you describe them. 'pinions'. 2 'pinion' carrier or 4 'pinion' carrier.

to describe them as pins would mean a single pin as in the widetrack, or 3 pin as in the narrow, but this is not used in the industry.
