1990 hilux 2.8 / 2.4 diesel wiring harness

Post by muzza85 »

hey i have a 90 model hilus it was originally 2.8 but now has a 2.4 turbo motor in it. the car runs (ran) fine and everything worked but i had to do a cab swap the cab i bought is the same and had a 2.8.

the guy left all the wiring in the cab but not engine bay but as ive gone to wire it up ive noticed some of its different but also alot of my harness looks like its been bodgied up.

anyway my question is are the 2.8 and 2.4 wiring harness the same?? as im going to see if i can find another harness ( just the engine bay part of it)

cheers

Will depend a lot on which 2.4 TD motor you have.

2LT will be pretty much the same, few more vacuum hoses for fuel pump, etc.
If the 2LTE, then a bit more wiring required as it will need the ECU to run properly.

its the 2lt i looked at my mates hilux his is a 97 model 2.8 diesel and his wiring is the same as my original cab which originally had the 2.8 then had the 2.4 fitted and the new cab was definatley a 2.8 as well as it has 3l on the compliance plate.

did toyota change the way they wired them as my original cab is 11/90 and the new cab is 8/90.

im pickin up a wiring harness for it soon so i guess it should match with one of the two ive got

If they were both from 2.8's them should be the same.
Maybe someone has played with it :?

thats what i thought at first because on my original cab some of the wiring was a bit bodgy. but after comparing them to my mates 2.8 its the new cab thats not even close to being the same and it looks like it has never been touched.

the cab i picked up has a voltage regulator in the engine bay. my original cab or mates cab dosent have one and the sensor on the brake booster is on top of the lid where as my original one and my mates one is on the bottom of the container where the fluid is held.

its got me F*&$%d there all 2.8s

Is one of the cabs an SR5 or built in different plants maybe ??
Check build plate.

No idea why they would be so different being built only a few months appart :?
