Hey guys, I have a TF727 behind a Chev 350 in my Rangie (84 4 door), it's pretty much F**ked, pissing out oil, sloppy changes etc.
What I want to know is, is it worth the rebuild and what would that cost, or should I put a TH400/700 in?

727 Is a very good auto. what is the reco cost. I would reco the 727. but im lazy.
To fit T400 requires all the adptors, see locky on here he has or had the kit. bit of work but not to bad.
T700 I think are electronic may require a lot more work.

It costs $2500.00-$3000.00 to reco a ZF.

Its going to cost that and more by the time you buy bell housings and adaptors plus the gearbox.

Like HSV Rangie mentioned, better off keeping the 727 auto with that sort of grunt!!
I'm not a big fan of the 727's as they require lots of power to get them going, but in your case it's sounds like an ideal combo.
I had mine done years back when i had my 84 Ranguie and it was about $1600 totally rebuild.

Thanks guys, thats pretty much what the guy in the shop said aswell. Is it worth an extra $400 to go a stage 2 shift kit?

stage 2 might be a little too much for wheeling...you will be chirping your tyres on 1st to 2nd shifts....
stage 1 seems a better option

Ok one more question, It seems like the chev boxes have a bigger filter so may work better on angles. Is it that much of a difference? I;m pretty sure I will just rebuild the TF.
