Looking at making some bolt on d-shackle brackets for the Rangie....
What would be the minimum thickness steel I should use...

I agree... I've seen stock brackets much thinner than that that were okay - not great, but okay. 10mm will be much better than just okay.
How you position the bolt holes in relation to the hole for the d-shackle will make a difference as well; you don't want the shackle to be able to "leverage" the bracket.
Well, I can't explain it but you probably get what I mean.

Im sure the ARB brackets arn't designed for heavy use as they do bend side ways, more of a towing point id think.
Also they arn't a small piece welded on, its part of the main bar that bolts to the chassis.
The bit sticking out the front is only about one tenth of the overall sheet.
10mm would probebly be ok but the stronger the beter.
So why did they go 20+mm in the pic above then ?
