Given the terrain in VIC I don't see why you'd need to go so low. 1st low would be crazy low and would mean that you'd be using 3rd and 4th in low range to get wheel speed.

nothing wrong with 3rd and 4th for wheelspeed... 4th is a nice strong gear anyway =)

im running 5.14 tcase with 31s and its pretty much bang on stock on road and offroad i use 2nd low a lot, as well as 3rd and 4th, even 5th skipping between sections of track (although more and more i find myself shifting back to 2wd for this).

The high range reduction on the 8.1's would bring a 33" tyre close to stock... seems a bit low for 33's in low range, and probably too tall in high range for 35s etc... weird.

I reckon your car is geared pretty well AJSR. I don't think it would work as well with 8:1's in it.

I've crunched some numbers and with 34" tyres and WT diff gears and 8:1 Transfer:

Crawl: 106:1
Highway: 3282 rpm @ 100km/hr

I don't think a car in victoria needs 106:1 crawl. I'm at 127:1 and it's only usable because my low end torque is soft and my motor revs high. I wouldn't build a car with more motor geared that low - in fact, I'd be building an auto at 60-80:1 crawl.

I understand you're looking to go EFI 1.6- I'd say the 87:1 or so you have with 6.5's is a better package. You'll be getting frustrated with the lack of wheelspeed with 8:1's IMHO.
