The Australian ROCK Race
Major Sponsors - Suspension Stuff
We are gong to have an off road 8 hour endurance hard rock speed event at Scenic Rim Adventure Park at Beadesert near Brisbane, Queensland Australia. The track will be able to be driven and winched by modified winch trucks but it won't be for the light hearted. We will have vehicles that have at least 35" Tyres, good approach, departure and ramp over angle
Whoever can do the most 10km laps wins. You will get a timed 15 minute break every lap for fatigue safety.
We will start in intervals between 1 minute and 10 minutes(Yet to be decided). Starting order will most likely be chosen by Brenden and myself on who we think are most capable rigs.
Starting order of the following race in September will be dependant on the finishing order of the previous race.
Saturday 22nd May 2010. 7am-5:30pm and another to be held later in the year, probably September before it gets too hot.
This event will include the longest and hardest creek runs (with longer bypass tracks for not so capable vehicles) and some speed sections. We will start at the office and head up to Tour Drive 1, down Patrol Track, half of Gonzo's Noze, down an extreme new creek run, then down the other creek run that we all know that ends up back at the office.
You will need a minimum 35" tyres, good ground clearence, approach and departure angles. You will need a roll cage, harness and helmet for safety. Bring jerry cans for refueling and you can leave them at either of the 2 refuelling spots.
We will require you to run the course slowly before the event unless you email us your previous race achievements. We will soon have a map with GPS coordinates and the course will be signed so you can go through the course at your leisure.
Entry is $300. Prizes undecided and will depend on who Sponsors the event. We will give a separate prize for buggies and also Outlaw/Winch 4WD's and lap records. If other sponsors are interested please contact Brenden or myself.
We will have several Marshall stations (need heaps of volunteers) around the park so people stick to the course. Marshalls will be on channel 13.
If someone is close behind you please let them pass. A polite honk or whistle might work if they haven't seen you. If you have been passed, you can't pass the vehicle who past you until one of the next 8 marshalling points.
I hope that plenty of people bring video cameras so we can pool our resources and make an awesome DVD. Let us know if you are keen to put all this footage together to make the DVD.

Put up or Shut up Seriously, we were never happy with the previous name but we had to change it from King of the Rim because of the dirty minds of some.STIKA wrote:New undies .... new event name.
So don't you have a suitable rig or don't you think it would be a good comp to enter?

Can we please keep the crap talk off this thread as we are looking at an event that requires serious input. A lot of money is being invested and we want the serious comments from those that will be competing.
We have some interest from the USA in supporting the event, and believe it this forum is viewed over there. As the USA companies interest was sparked due to the previous thread.
There are guys with 100k plus rigs that don't get to drive that much in AUS so how about we all support the event and all it's teething issues so we can enjoy seeing these guys drive.
There will be no more comments on the level of the tracks as all real competitors will see first hand when inspecting the track how hard the track is and the lines they will need to take. Those interstate competitors with questions please email.
A promo DVD and flyers of the event will be launched at the upcoming 4x4 show in Brisbane as we agreed to take a stand at tonights business meeting. We're going to build an indoor RC rock crawling track at our stand for the public to come and have a drive of the RC cars. This 4x4 show will see around 30-35k people attend.

NOTHING LIKE A HARD DAY AT THE OFFICE AS THE HAND BREAK SAYS

It may have some humour in the comment but it is a serious question....or perhaps you don't want it to be "spectator friendly?" After all it is only by attracting spectators that you'll make the comp seem worthwhile for sponsors
A few comments:
Buggy guys won't run windscreens - you need to account for this. Yes it hurts getting hit by rocks, but shit happens.
Have the lights be on ALL the time. In most rules it is illegal for there to be a switch in the curcuit.
Fire is going to be a big issue. Most of these cars will not have run for a prolonged time at high temps.
Most don't have a seperate parking brake. I presume the park function on an auto box will suffice.
At speed I would think a 5 point harness is more appropriate.
the 15 minute break is soft imo.
I have just spent the last few days trawling through the KOH rules to ensure my buggy is legal, so if you need more advice get in contact. Obviously you are just starting out and the rules will evolve, but that's just my input.

From Brenden not Shane
If you don't have a windscreen you have to have a full face helmet.
The lights will be included
The fire is being done as a risk assessment. We'll be working a way out to manage this.
The 15 mins is soft but an insurance requirement.
The auto park brake is fine as my cars handbrake works but doesn't if you know what i'm saying.

Not sure who this is meant for?? as i post same time 9.49pm. And yes i'm serious as a competitor and i also have heaps of family coming down too!!!!! maybe if its too far to walk around the events incase we cant drive our cars around cause there'll be too many spectator's cars then i'm not sure what to do. Not worried about rules or tracks it will be what it will be. I have also asked in the other thread but not sure if i'll get a reply. Have nothing else to say but good luck brendon its a big effort.harrisbm wrote:Can we please keep the crap talk off this thread as we are looking at an event that requires serious input. You can watch the action by walking about 100 metres.
to go to the other viewing area we will probably use a 4WD as a shuttle bus to take elderly people or people who are too lazy to walk. There will be a small fee.
