Bad Bonnet Rattle

Post by LOCKER »

Got an annoying squeak and rattle coming the bonnet hinges I think, I can see the bonnet shaking sideways on corrugations etc so much so the paint on edge of the bonnet is chipping off where it is hitting against the body panels. Does anyone know if the GQ come out with rubber blocks to stop the bonnet moving. I thought about fitting bonnet pins to stop it moving, but these can rattle as well. Any suggestions would much apreciated.

It is really starting to piss me off

You can wind up the bonnet rubbers at the front of your engine bay. If you wind them out a bit when you lock down the bonnet it will sit on Them It worked for me!

Or use rubber fuel line about 50mm long slit down side and push on edge of bonnet near the hinge, you may need a bit of glue as I found that mine vibrated around without it

I had exactly the same drama with my GQ. Drove me nuts creaking and rattling and chipping the paint. If you lube the hinges it gets worse!

I bought an extra set of rubber bonnet supports same as the front ones and fitted them up near the firewall. Its a five minute job and solves all your problems. It also makes the front rubbers last a bit longer too, but they still chop out after a while. I have heater hose slipped over the metal bodies now with a bit of silastic in the hole.
I did this about 6 years ago and its all good.
