Most carpet places will sell you offcuts/leftovers. I found commercial/office carpet works well, got it in the back of mine.

Make a template out of paper and then mark the pattern onto the carpet so you can cut it.

on my rangie i just went and got some new offcuts from the bin at night from a carpet place. (these are brand new way big enough pieces) took the old one out, used that as a template and then used some double sided tape in places to help it mould better.

I have a friend who does apholstry in syd, PM me if you want his phone number. Did a good job on mine, and could prolly get the carpet cheaper (trade prices). Thats if you dont want to DIY. Didnt need to be moulded for my rocky, 3mm(?) marine carpet.

i cant see the point of water proof carpet it will find away to go between the carpet and the water will sit between carpet and metal and rust

or do you mean it wont rot and crap it self when wet

yer when i replace the carpet im gunna spray a few coats of sound deadener (spelling???) probally build a nice thick layer

was thinking of getting the sound absorbing foam stuff or felt not sure what its made off and put it in all the doors and inner cavities but i though if its gets wet its harder to get to and you wont know till its rotting and gone yuck

would be fine on a normal car

any ways ill keep you all updated when it happens

The first time i fully drowned the trol i let it bake in the sun for a week with doors open
still stinks - lift the carpet, underlay is soaked
remove carpet, steam clean and replace.

The next time i drowned it i ripped the carpet out and tore all the underlay off and then replaced it

The next time i drowned it (notice a trend here) the whole bloody lot came out and has and will never go back in

Floor and hump get a wee bit hot, nothing a rubber floor mat doesn't fix. some people even spray body deadener everywhere, why bother?

The bottom line is carpet/vinyl and serious 4wheelin' don't mix

I noticed the trend................done it a few times myself, but with an EFI system mounted on the firewall under the passengers feet I also had a few other thing to think of................

hi mate i had all these questions as well cos underlay is a b!tch and normal carpet just rots over time and holds water. i went and put in 6mm rubber allt he way through and made it in a few sections so i can pull it out and hose if off, then hose out the car.

i went to clarks rubber for my stuff.. it was a bit exy but you dont the hell sexy look of checkerplate :)

and being 6mm it acts like a bit of a noise reduction layer as well. check the attached photo. can post more if you want a look of the back as well? i have made press stud covers for the wheel arches as 6mm is way to thick to 'mould' and cut yourself to fit.

hope it helps in your decisions.

cheers

$80 I bought 4x2.2metres of marine carpet and cut it out myself.

worked a treat and was washable with the hose.

looked very professional and took about 3 hrs total to do properly (taking my time)

Bit of a dig but has anyone used any molded carpets from these guys?

http://www.all-car-carpets.com.au/

I'm looking at turfing the old carpet and underlay and putting the vinyl stuff in my zook along with the water proof underlay they do. Chances of getting my zook wet are low so I'm more concerend with being able to easily clean out sand and dirt but I'm looking at the waterproof underlay just in case.

If anyone has used them how did they go for fit? Are they well molded and is the vinyl tough enough not to rip or wear holes through quickly?

Pics would be awesome but don't rush, I'm not making a decision on what to get until Feb. They list a lwb on the website, it looks like I would just need to get some more vinyl/rubber and underlay to cover the cargo space behind the rear seats. I'll want to go super heavy duty in the back as I'm always draging the engel, fishing boxes, etc out and don't want anything that might rip.
