welding GU diff housing

As stated I need to weld to the diff housing next to the bump stops.
I have a mig but not shaw how thick they are. I am putting another bump stop bracket next to the one thats there.

The original bumpstop striker on the front is inside the coil,, part of the spring seat. The axle tube at this point, and outwards to the swivels, is about a 12mm wall thickness. As the tubes extend to the centre, i would say, the tubes are about 3mm thick.
I'm interested in what you're doing here. why a secondary bumpstop??
Or are you just extending the bumpstops , by welding a spacer to the bump striker on the axle??

I'm guessing your alking about the rear diff not the front. The axle tubes are about 6mm thick so it can take plenty of heat

While the housing can take reasonable heat, I would still do it as cool as possible to limit distortion.....

Thanks for replies guys, OK what i am doing is putting airbags with coil outers directly under the the chassis rail. To do this I have to remove the original bump stops.
I do not want to have no bump stops so I am going to weld a new bracket next to the one on the diff housing and fabricate a new top mount like the rear spring mount.
